I heard from a very reliable source that the respected Wallyhood.org investigative journalism team has uncovered the identities of said firework idiots, but was bribed with beer at a popular Latona porch party to keep it all underwraps. Go Team Latona, go!

I just called the North Precinct about the idiots setting off fireworks near NE 50th and Latona, and was told that they're not doing anything about it. The duty officer told me that if I wanted a response, I should call 911. So much for consistent information!

Last year, we were walking in the vicinity of Burke & 43rd and there was a cool blues band playing on the front porch of a house. Anyone know of any bands playing on front porches tomorrow?

We put our old border collie in the bathroom with the fan going to mask the noise of fireworks going off. That and some special snacks when we return usually keeps us in her good graces. Yeah, we're fleeing the neighborhood for the AquaSox game that has fireworks afterwards. Hope all Wallingfordians have a safe and sane 4th!!

To Wallyhood.org Owners:

We are neighbors! I live right across the street from John Stanford on 42nd. Is your cat the friendly tabby cat that roams up and down 4th ave? Julia

We don't want to medicate our cats, but I do want to sedate them for tomorrow nite. It turns out that lavendor oil on the door frames mellows them out really really well. Well enough that I can cut the "bad" kitty's nails without a fight, and that's sayin' something. My source for this tip was a website on the internet -- I don't claim to be a vet or have any special knowledge.

One danger, tho -- they say cats can't process the oil if it gets in their bodies, so if you use it be sure to put it high enough (i.e. door frames) that they can't rub against it or get any on their paws. I'd recommend checking with a vet, if you consider this option.
