Awful situation. Also a time to act. Pedestrians have essentially ZERO rights in Washington State now. If you get hit or even killed, even in a ped zone, even if the driver is entirely at fault, the driver usually walks away paying only a small fine. Support the Vulnerable Victims legislation being advocated by Cascade Bike Club right now http://www.cascade.org/Advocacy/vulnerable-user.cfm

Well, if you filed a police report, I would call (and continue to call) and ask for any "follow-up reports." Based on my own hit and run experience with a car on car accident only a block away from there, it will be up to you to call and ask if anyone has come forward for this. In my case, the person came forward a few hours after the accident, yet the Seattle police never informed me. I only learned of it several weeks later because someone told me to call and specifically ask for a follow-up report.

Did you husband see the driver? Was the Mustang a convertible? I live right around here so I'll keep my eyes open too! How scary for your family; I am glad they are alright!

Police and Fire did respond to the scene. Unfortunately, there is only so much they can do without a license plate. So please keep your eyes out for a dark colored or black Mustang in the area (they may live in the area and it might have damage to its front right side). Also, I put in a call to the City regarding the bushes on that corner (Sunnyside and 50th) that are situated between the sidewalk and street and complained about how when a car is waiting to turn right onto 50th from Sunnyside the bushes make it difficult for a driver to see the pedestrians waiting to cross at the crosswalk. Obviously this is no excuse for a car striking three people and then speeding away, but it is a safety concern that I think needs to be dealt with as well. They said they would send a City employee out to look at the area and get back to me. If anyone has similar concerns regarding these bushes being a safety concern, please speak up, as I think it would help force the City to remedy the problem. There is always strength in numbers : )

I park on Keystone within sight of this crosswalk, and I see close calls between cars and pedestrians often. It's pretty scary. Did they call 911? Were the police of any help?

Hi All,
Just wanted to make a correction. My husband corrected me and said it was actually a black Mustang. Obviously, I know very little about cars. Please keep your eye out for a black Mustang. And I should have said the car made a right turn onto 50th from Sunnyside (not Keystone). I forgot that it's Keystone on one side and it turns into Sunnyside on the other side of 50th. Thank you for keeping your eyes out and for all the kind words!

We live a block from this intersection, which my neighbors and I call "Crash Corner." There are accidents here on a monthly basis. The traffic diet on 50th from a couple of months ago helped immensely, but it's still a dangerous intersection. I recommend that anyone using this intersection use extra caution whether on foot or wheels.

I know this is a captain obvious moment, but did the family call all the tv stations? I have no doubt at least one or two could spare a couple minutes to share their story.

Also, for you social networkers out there - ask your Twitter/Facebook buds in the area to keep their eyes peeled and retweet!

I will keep my eyes out for that car too! I am glad your family is okay. That must have been a very scary experience for you as well as the kids. People driving through Wallingford SLOW DOWN.

I'll keep my eyes open for the offending vehicle.
I'm so happy that no major injuries happened.
Hope the kids aren't too traumatized (husband, too).
