With the Fourth of July and the Wallingford Kiddie Parade right around the corner, Wallingford residents have volunteer opportunities aplenty, without even needing to leave the ‘hood. And really, what better way to show a little pride in your country than by chipping in to make it a cleaner, more fun place to live?
Wednesday: The Family 4th at Gasworks Park (and other destinations around Lake Union) could use plenty of helping hands. In order to help, you must register at Onereel’s volunteer Switchboard (information can be found here). Perks of volunteering at the Family 4th include an exclusive T-shirt and getting to experience the festival behind the scenes.
Thursday: Starbucks hosts its third annual post-fireworks clean-up of Gas Works Park and South Lake Union. According to their registration page, they have completely filled their volunteer slots for Gas Works Park, but they are still seeking volunteers to help at the Center for Wooden Boats. Since the weather is actually supposed to be nice on the Fifth of July (doesn’t it always work that way?), a morning spent South Lake Union should be quite a treat. Of course, if you’re just hoping to stumble down the hill and you can supply your own commemorative T-shirt and morning pastry, I’m sure no one will mind if you lend a hand at Gasworks.
Saturday: It’s the annual Kidde Parade! Janet at the Wallingford Neighborhood Association let us know that she’s in need of folks to help with registration. She says, “It’s an easy and fun job, actually. You get to see all the marchers and be in the middle of things. It would require you to be available at 9:30 to 11am on Saturday July 7th.” If you love to be in the middle of things, please send a note to Janet at email@example.com.
Whichever you choose, thanks on behalf of the community!
