The Gypsy Java Café Lives! (For Now!)

Update Friday, November 9, 12:41pm: Ira Gerlich of Evolution Projects replied to my email to confirm that the deal between Evolution Projects and the Gypsy Java Café fell through. Although he didn’t go much into detail, he did write, “We are really happy to have the Gypsy back right now and we wish the Gypsy the best and hope that things are back up and running smoothly.”

I stopped by The Fremont Collective today for the evo store preview this morning (more on that later), and I noticed that the “Open” neon sign was lit at the Gypsy Java Café. I went inside and said, “I thought you guys were closed!” to which the barista replied, “Well, we were, but something happened with the sale and now we’re open until we’re sold.”

Huh. Interesting!

So, I emailed Evolution Properties (the company that, presumably, was to have bought the building, which also owns The Fremont Collective next door), and I haven’t heard anything back yet. As soon as I do, I’ll update this post.

In the meantime, here’s the news: The Gypsy Java Café has (re)opened for business! The hours of operation are Monday-Friday: 7:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 9:00-5:00pm.

Wahoo! Been trying other coffee shops every week since Gypsy closed and haven’t found anything we like nearly as much. Too this, not enough that, lousy parking, coffee good/food not, horrible music, terrible lighting, too loud, tables small for a laptop and cup of coffee, etc, etc.. So, this is GOOD news! Now, who wants to buy it with me and turn it into a coffee shop co-op?
