I think all my friends with Girl Scouts were taking pre-orders starting in about mid-January, but I don't think the sales & deliveries have actually started yet. Not sure when they do start, sadly, but I'm sure someone will stake out some space at QFC!

Hi, my 93 Jeep bit it during the week of snow and this cold and won't turn over now. I had an insurance jumper come out and he verified there is still electical power (lights, etc. work) yet there was no response when he tried to jump it. I am tried of getting completely ripped off (Ballard Firestone, true criminals) so am looking for a local human being to come and look at it. If the repair is expensive, I would like to sell it for parts or to someone who likes to repair Jeeps. New fuel pump, new wipers, new starter/ignition, body is great shape, 4 x 4, V8 93 Jeep Cherokee Grand Larado. Red. Looks good and before the snow, ran fine. 18 mpg.

Rodger Wilkstrom, of the Wilkstrom Brother's Gallery, has an amazing sale of vintage collectables. Pristine quality comic books, 20 years and older slot cars tracks and cars, figurines, board games, cards, videos, models, posters and much much more. Everything I saw was in the original package, much of it unopened. His collection generally runs in the science fiction/super hero genre. Unbelievable prices.

He told me he's been collecting this stuff since the 1960's.

It's really quite a collection and if you think you might be interested I'd recommend stopping by. 10-3 Feb 1 - 29th at 5411 Meridian Ave N. His phone is 206-552-4614 if you have questions. Enjoy!

What nerve! No sheepish, shame-filled apology; after being confronted on private property he still has the gall to ask to keep the bottle. I guess some of these guys feel that because they're just "down on their luck," they they're entitled to tolerance from the homeowner. I'd have told him he could also keep my boot in his ass if he didn't gtfo my property immediately.

It's very likely these bums aren't looking for a nickel or two from recycling; they're looking for any discarded personal information with which to ruin your life for the next few years until you get your credit and identity back. It's also possible that it's a cover for casing your house, seeing what's in it and if it's worth breaking in to.

And if if they are just simply looking for stuff you're throwing away, guess what: Until Waste Management comes along and picks it up, it's still my stuff! And they're trespassing to get it. If I put a sign on it that says "free" and leave it on the curb, then, and only then, do they have the right to take it.

The recent conversations about recycling reminded me of something that happened recently. I heard someone on our porch, and went to answer the door. There was a homeless man on our porch digging through our recycling bins. (We have the very old crates on the porch for fast deposits.) He picked out an (empty) tequila bottle and waved at me. I asked him to leave. He kept digging. I asked him to leave again. He asked if he could keep the bottle, and I said sure - but please leave. He did.

You can't see the bins from the street - We have a large, gated porch with tons of foliage. He would have had to go up a driveway and several steps to get there, so it wasn't just convenience. I am wondering if he was working his way down the street.

I didn't call the police - it really didn't seem that big a deal - but it did unnerve me that someone was just picking through things on my porch. Has anyone else encountered that? Also, anyone know if this is the kind of thing the community police dept (not 911) wants reported?

From the Seattle Times this morning:

Parks worker injured in assault

A Seattle parks worker was treated for facial injuries Thursday morning after he attempted to stop a man from assaulting a woman in a Wallingford neighborhood park, park officials say.

Dewey Potter, Park Department spokeswoman, said the 45-year-old maintenance worker was treated and released from Northwest Hospital after the 11 a.m. incident at Meridian Park in the 4600 block of Sunnyside Avenue North.

Potter said the park employee, who has worked for the department since 1998, said he saw a man and a woman who both appeared to be homeless, and saw that the man was striking her.

Potter said the parks employee told the suspect to stop assaulting the woman or he would call police, at which point the man attacked him.

The suspect fled but was arrested in the area shortly after police arrived, said Seattle Police Detective Jeff Kappel.

The 31-year-old man was booked into jail on a charge of misdemeanor assault.

Hi,
We are selling our house and need to make the outside look pretty as a picture. We did the big clean up a few weeks ago, but the snow storm left our yard needing a pick-me-up.

I need someone to:
1) clean leaves off garage roof
2) clean a few gutters
3) rake lawn
4) sweep walkways
5) clean a window well
6) make everything look pretty and clean

This all needs to be done on Friday - even if it rains, but is supposed to be cloudy that day. If interested please email. $15/hour

We are selling our house and need to have our dog, Kaya, out for the first week or maybe two, while people come visit at all hours. Kaya is really friendly and cuddly. She is well house trained, comes when her name is called and sits on command. She will keep you company and warm during the cold winter. We have two small children and she is quite used to activity, but enjoys quiet too. She also gets along with other dogs. We were thinking $25/day. Please email if interested. The start day is next Friday, Jan 27.

I am a small licensed general contractor in the neighborhood with several visible exterior projects I have completed over the last couple years right in the neighborhood.

My skill set is highly diverse because of my approach to learning and working in virtually every trade to some extent. I studied Civil Engineering/Construction Management and Computer Science in college which enhanced my problem solving skills while also being an artist and musician which lends to my general aesthetic.

I specialize in remodel, finish work, carpentry, painting, wall repair etc and am a very efficient handyman as well. No project too small! I am one who believes that keeping it local is a means to solving a multitude of problems that we are faced with in our time.

I do quality work, have a list of great subcontractors that I work with and several references from the neighborhood.

Also available for landscape design (very talented laid off designer), install and maintenance.

Mindful and fair in how I do business with strong attention to functionality, aesthetics and overall reason in completing projects.

If you have not yet found a carpenter, I am a small general contractor, licensed and insured with 20 plus years experience in all phases of construction with a specialty in finish work. I have worked on numerous projects around my block (1st Ave to Eastern). Lots of visible work on exteriors on the block where I did a lot of exterior repair and painting to recently a bathroom remodel with water damage, re-frame, tile surround and floor. I offer very generous discounts for neighbors with all of the savings on fuel I enjoy. I have a firm belief in keeping it local.

And actually, it's not an Easy Share - though it's definitely a Kodak. It looks similar to this one: http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/20919/kodak-video-cameras/

We were parked near 2325 N 57th on New Year's Eve when our Kodak Easy Share (we think that's the brand name) video camera fell our of our car. Someone was nice enough to leave a note on our windshield, saying they'd found it. Unfortunately, my husband threw the note away before we called the number on it. It's bluish gray and the latest photos on it would be of water and islands.

We are hoping whoever found the camera notices this posting and emails or calls us! My email is annie.harlan@gmail.com and my number is 206 300 7379.

Thank you so much!

I have practiced Reiki since 1987 and know how soothing, relaxing and healing it can be. Personally I have used it for healing broken bones, reducing swelling from dental surgery, enhancing fertility, unleasing creativity, calming and balancing chi. It is an ancient Japanese healing method. I can come to your home if convenient or you can come to mine in Wallingford. First session is about 1.5 hours in duration. $40 per session or sliding scale. Please email me at susan_wills@live.com,

Hi there, I am a good house cleaner (had my own business doing just that while going to grad school. I am local, meticulous, fast, and have to pass a background check for every tech contract I do (last one, Boeing Tanker Project) so am trustworthy. I enjoy the physical work (most of my jobs involve sitting in front of a computer for ages) and am extremely thorough. I live in Wallingford and have a flexible schedule. Drop me a line if interested and we can exchange phone numbers, discuss further!
