Folks, I just got off the phone with the SPD North Precinct. They state that if you see ANYBODY who you think "might" be a registered sex offender (even if you think it's just a hunch) in a park, school--anywhere around children, please, PLEASE call SPD Dispatch: 625-5011. Press option 2, then 8.

No problem, anything to help out the neighbors.

We live on the far east side of wallingford so our zip is 98105. It may have pulled up different individuals. If you use the map, his address is at 41st & Roosevelt.

There is a way to look him up by name as well but I don't know how off the top of my head.

I'm looking for a reliable and regular babysitter for Mon/Wed/ Fri 3:30-5:30. I have two busy kiddos. I am mostly looking for child care for my son who is 3, so that I can go running and/or do some work at home while my baby (9 months) naps. It would also be great to build rapport so my husband and I could go on the occasional early Saturday date night. If you could do any/all of these days that would be AWESOME.

Please e-mail me at:

Just wanted to say thanks to the folks who came out to the class last night; hopefully everyone got a lot out of it and feels confident they could perform CPR when and if necessary (with luck, you’ll never need it). We plan on trying to organize a “Wallyhood” class every couple of months or so. In the meantime, stay safe!

Thanks –

Leucid on "Woodlawn Burglary"

You're right walkinroun, I am too quick to jump to conclusions. Being burgaled heightens one's emotions and increases the vengence hormones. Thanks for the wise words.

What I meant to communicate was how the activities of these people had made me suspicious of them, and how we should keep an eye out for anyone who seems to be casing our neighborhood--the emphasis here on the actions, not the physical appearance of the person.

True, the men I mention above may have had nothing to do with my burglary; they may be two totally innocent dudes. However, my empirical evidence suggests that they are likely suspects. It is known that distributing fake pizza fliers is a method of casing a prospective joint to burgle.
http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2010-01-14/news/1001130184_1_fliers-fake-pizza-pizza-hut
It's a double-whammy. If no one is home, the place can be burglarized. If you call the pizza company and give them your credit card info, they steal your identity.
The men doing this were the same ones with the bikes, pipe and a heap of other unidentifiable things in their van.

The bottom line is this: don't judge someone based on their appearance. But do judge them based on their actions, so that more hard-working people do not have half of their well-earned assets stolen from them.

No need to be paranoid, Wallingford, just be diligent.

Hello.

I'm not part of this wonderful community as I do not live here. I come to the Wallingford park to play tennis and touch football.

Last Monday (August 23rd) while playing football I lost my wedding ring of 3 months and I'm just devastated. I'm sure some of you saw me out there with a metal detector.

I ran into several nice people who helped me in all kinds of ways. One of them told me about this forum and recommended I post about my ring here. So here I am.

I don't want to do exact specifics (if you email I will reply with a picture) but it's white gold with three diamonds. It was practically a custom piece and while it's not the most expensive ring out there; the sentiment behind it is irreplaceable.

Thank you and you can contact me at Teresa@woodscreek.com

To have someone violate your home and steal things from you is dastardly. That said, it is important not to make assumptions or draw conclusions based upon speculation. Unless you have some clear evidence linking those skinny old men in the white van to the burglary, it is patently unfair to "theorize" that they committed the crime. We live on the same street and also observed these two characters loading those horrible, degraded old pipes into their van, in full view of the neighborhood, and on two separate occasions. If they were stealing, they were pretty nonchalant about it! They were also pretty entertaining, as they tried to figure out how to get an extra long pipe into that van, eventually deciding to just back their truck into it...and attracting a bit of attention as they did so.

I don't want to minimize your loss. It is horrible to be violated. But I have often noted how people are quick to draw unfair conclusions about people in the neighborhood based upon how they look, or appear.

Is the Wallingford Playfield a totally on-leash area? I see off-leash dogs there all the time. I'm not particularly bothered by this myself, but I have wondered if people are blatantly ignoring the rules.

On the same topic, what about Gasworks? On-leash or off-leash? I've seen quite a bit of both there. Yesterday I saw a little boy being chased by a cute little puppy that just wanted to play, but the boy was screaming and crying, trying to get away.

On Thursday Aug. 26 between 8am and 5pm my house was burglarized. They were very efficient, taking only the most valuable items and large bags to carry the stuff in. They hardly made a mess.

I have reason to believe I've seen the robbers a few times in the neighborhood. I first saw them walking south along both sides of Woodlawn Ave N, spreading flyers door-to-door for some obscure pizza delivery company, 8-10 months ago. They were 2 or 3 men in their 40-50’s, Caucasian, and had shaved heads. The next time I saw them, 2-3 moths ago, they were loading into their white, 1980ish utility van, pipe that was sitting on the side of the road from a recent gas/water repair by WSDOT. I also noticed that they had a couple bikes in the back of the van.

I regret that it took me this long to report this description to the police, however I doubt there is much they can do.

If you see suspicious-looking men matching this description, please call the police. They think they can do whatever they want to this neighborhood. Let's show them otherwise.

MaryW- there are a few sign around the neighborhood for houses for rent. There is a 4 bed that has been available for a while. What are you looking for? Your original post says you can spend $1500/month. That seems like a lot to me. I can snap pics of rental signs around the neighborhood while walking my dog if you'd like. Just let me know. Email me at pele206@aol.com if that would help at all. I'm out and about every day in the area of Stone Way, 40th to 45th etc. Good luck in your search!~

The class does offer AED training as an option; normally one would check that box off during enrollment but since doing so would incur an additional charge, any of the Wallyhood readers can just remain in class for the training and get it at no extra cost.

Robba, this is wonderful, thanks. Does the training offer AED training as well?

Hello -

I and my wife, both Wallingford residents, own and operate CPR Seattle, a CPR training center on Stone Way between 42nd and 43rd. The class lasts 1.5 to 2 hours and comes with a two-year American Heart Association certification card. Just use this link to our website http://www.cprseattle.com and enroll online. Use the promo code wallycpr during enrollment. Class size is limited to 12 persons. Feel free to call us at 774-8762 with any questions.

Just want to say, in case you hear of anything, I'm still actively looking...hope to find a Wallyhood place by October 1 (but will keep looking after that, too.) Basic hopes are windows (not basement), a bathtub, and the more closets and cupboards the better, but don't need a whole lot of space.

I'll post here when I'm no longer looking. Thanks again to everyone who replied!

Wow, that sounds really similar to car break at my place. My roommate's car was broken into Friday night (Aug 20th) around midnight near 51st ST and Latona/1st. He said he later found some kind of tool near the car door.

They stole a bunch of things from inside the car, tried to steal some of the stereo equipment, and then left the door/trunk ajar all night.
