1. Looking for an optometrist or opthamologist in the neighborhood. Does anyone have opinions or recommendations?

  2. their office is in Phinney Ridge, but Drs. Cindy Woo and Rob Rosales are Wallingford residents and also really nice.

  3. Dr. Ono is awesome. Right next to Dick's:

  4. I love mine, but he's on Capital Hill. I would counter-recommend Viola Gay of the big sign on Wallingford Ave. I gave her two chances, with a break of about 10 years in between; she may be perfect for someone, but neither of my experiences would be kind to detail.

  5. Second the recommendation for Dr. Ono (what doctor emails you the week after your appointment with follow-up comments?), and second the counter-recommendation for Viola Gay. It was like getting an exam from your weird aunt who you never visit, and it took way too long due to unnecessary conversation (none of it mine).

  6. I have to third the counter-recommendation for Viola Gay. The exam was about 1/3 exam, and 2/3 small talk about something going on with her relatives. When I went back to pick my contacts up, I asked my wife to call my cell if she didn't hear from me in an hour. It wasn't that bad, but I did have to make small talk for fifteen minutes, the whole time with her holding my contacts in her hands (i.e. I could have been in and out in 3 or 4 minutes).

  7. Not to go on and on about it, but I would also like to recommend AGAINST Dr. Gay. Not only is there a lot of bizarre soliloquy, but the prescription resulting from her inattentive examination was not nearly as accurate as one I got from a guy with an auto-refractor in Korea who spoke no English.

  8. I've been going to Roosevelt Vision Center (Roosevelt & 70th) - Laura something.

They seem to know what they're doing and are nice.

Costco has the best price on glasses unless you want fancy designer frames.

  9. If you want fancy designer frames, I'd definitely go to Market Optical. There's one in the U-Village, PPM and Bell Square.

  10. I highly recommend Scott Jamieson at Roosevelt Vision Source (70th & Roosevelt), whom I've been seeing since he was barely out of optometrist school. Not only is he a great doc, but he's quite the radical leftie and is very fun to have political conversations with. They also have a great selection of frames there, and a couple cool opticians to help you choose.

  11. 2nd the nomination for Scott Jamieson. He's been my primary eye care doctor for the last 20 years, and he's excellent -- extremely knowledgeable, good at communicating what's going on, and (a great bonus) a nice and very funny person.

Oddly enough, Scott seems to be the Kevin Bacon of the optometry world -- seems like everyone I know turns out to have his as their eye doctor, too.

  12. Laura at Roosevelt Vision Center is good and nice.
