Hi fellow wallys,
Just wanted to let you guys know that my car got broken into on bagley. They didn’t smash a window but they do have this new device that can automatically open certain cars (kias, Prius). My friends car in Wallingford had the same thing happen to her. How you can tell is that when you go to your car, the car door is slightly ajar, seat adjusted, and crap thrown all over the place. Try to look out for your cars, if they struck on xmas then they will probably strike on New Year’s Eve or another holiday.December 27, 2016 at 8:23 am #55676
It is not just holidays.
Cars were stolen in our area off Stone mid-day.
Riffling, throwing stuff on floor, stealign of random items at night.
Dumpster divers middle of night and also plain old mid-day.December 27, 2016 at 9:09 am #55679
New and AmusedMember
This happened to use on Bagley as well. The good news is that when we called the police that informed us that they would not come out, would not investigate and that we could file a report online, that would be a waste of time.
As long as they is no deterrent these people will continue to break into our vehicles. Our city needs new leadership, new ideas and a plan to deal with all crime.December 27, 2016 at 3:10 pm #55683
The thieves are so very quick they are long gone by the time even near by police can get to you.December 27, 2016 at 5:30 pm #55684
1.) Mine was one of the stolen cars.. it took 8 hours for apoliceman to come to talk to me.
2.) Today coming north on Midvale N about 1:50 PM a police car was stopped on 42nd & Midvale N. A second one went south on Midvale. Police apparently docome for somthing in the neighborhood. Anyone know why they were around at that time? I am nto a member of Wallingford Buy Nothing or Community groups so I do nto get the internal news.December 27, 2016 at 9:35 pm #55686
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Here is a not so clear choppy video of the culprit who may have broken into your car like he did mine on Christmas evening. I’m on 50th between Stone and Midvale across from the tennis courts.
Take care and be safe out there!

@abigail – True, but surely you are not suggesting we dispense with calling the police.
We must call in every thing, every time. That’s the only way the police will divert their vastly understaffed police force to Wallingford.December 29, 2016 at 9:28 am #55705
Somebody got in to our Subaru Forester in our driveway last night and stole some cheap sunglasses from the glove box. They left the driver’s door wide open with the rest of the contents of the glove box strewn all over the passenger seat. The car had been locked. They must have used some kind of device to disable the lock. We live south of 44th, on Thackeray.December 29, 2016 at 11:21 am #55706
Mrs Frank fully understands that people will steal ANYTHING from the car, but last night we had an argument because she left a box of Pringles in the car. “Why would anyone steal Pringles?”
Because they’re hungry.
Because they don’t know it’s Pringles.
Because they’re jerks.
Because once they popped they couldn’t stop.
Don’t leave ANYTHING in your car. A meth addict will smash your windows for a quarter or a dime.
And call the police. And if they ignore you, go to social media and inclue the SPD twitter handle and hashtag. They will pay attention. My experience with SPD in Wallingford has been excellent though. They’ve shown up and folllowed through and they care, they’re just undermanned for the sheer volume.
And let’s be honest, we in this neighborhood are well aware of who’s stealing pringles out of a car, and the Mayor needs to come up with a plan for “homelessness” that first addresses the underlying issues by type, rather than this stupid umbrella idea that the problem is just housing. It’s not. It’s mental health, it’s poverty, oit’s drug and alcohol abuse. Roofs don’t fix those things alone.December 29, 2016 at 12:07 pm #55709
