This weekend is Obliteride– which means tha tmuch of Gasworks Park is off limits to public due to much of property being used by the intense and highly developed charity event which takes all weekend.
Editted– I am getting clarification re which parts of park are open to the unpaying public for access vs which parts require admission fees for entrance to party etc.
Thank you for contacting us and we’re sorry for the confusion. Gas Works Park IS open to the public this weekend. Obliteride, a bike ride to raise money for cancer research at Fred Hutch, kicks off tomorrow at 4:00 and there will be a lot of people at the park all weekend. We’re thrilled so many people are fundraising to help the Hutch find cures… so far Obliteride has raised more than $9 million for cancer research! We welcome everyone to join us. Go to obliteride.org for more information.
Hope to see you this weekend!
Fake news from Cathy.
Well, Pork Pie, I am unsure if you have shown up at gasworks on the Obliterudide weekend ot find that the park area where you had planned an event was closed ot public. That happened in the past.
This year when I happened across their set-up the Tuesday before the event I called on Wednesday and was told by their front line staff asnwering the phone tha tthe entire park was off limits ot the publi all weekend and that they would have security at the access points to the park. I was quite sure that could nto be true and spent a couple hours calling Seattl Customer Service and the Parks Permits office. My initial post here ( which I later editted) was to let people know that the event was happening and that there would be lmited access. I ultimately spoke with one of their PR folks ( later, also their director)who verified that I was correct that kite hill would be open as well as many other areas of the park. She said the front staff would be given more accurtate info. She also mentioned that they were tryign to get ahold of Wallyhood to give info about the event. I let her know how she could login and post in Forums. You can see that she did.
I am not sure what your beef with me is.. but you are in esteemed company- Marie//Maria of Ballard/ Roumania /Romania is a highl honored member of this forum and soem neighborhood.
