The Community Council, Nick Licata, and the GSC

Are related only in as much as I will cover all three so that I have enough material for a post. As the WCC just had the annual meeting, we are scrubbing the June 2nd Community Council meeting. On July 7th, we will likely meet to participate in 520 rebuild feedback round 4253, more on that as the time approaches. I suspect nothing will be built until flying trains can be built for free. If you want a political fix this…

Reminder: it's Wallingford Wednesday, that once monthly grand alignment of the Wallingford Farmer's Market (3 - 7 pm, Wallingford Center parking lot, 4400 Wallingford Avenue N) and Wallingford Art Walk (6 - 9 pm, all over Wallingford). Think of it like an eclipse, except instead of the moon obscuring the sun, it's just two things happening in Wallingford. Still, fresh local food and fresh local art, what's not to love. Grab yourself some veggies, bread and cheese and make a sandwich,…

It may not sound like much, but it's been a long time coming and it's actually quite beautiful: the John Stanford School has a new bench. Last year's fifth grade class donated a bench as their "thank you" gift to the school, but for reasons that only bureaucrats can fathom, it took until this year to get all the permissions and what-not to actually install it. This past Memorial Day weekend, there were several fathers out with their sons shoveling, pouring,…

Hollow Earth Radio: Movin’ On

In January '09, Wallyhood introduced us to Hollow Earth Radio -- an Internet radio station broadcasting an eclectic mix of music and interviews 24 /7 from right here in Wallingford. Sadly, we've recently learned that Hollow Earth is moving out of the 'hood and into the Central district.  But it's good news for them, for local musicians, and for indie music fans throughout the city.  From their recent press release: By moving to a publicly accessible station in Seattle's Central District,…

Thank You, School of Oom Yung Doe

Every month or so, we take a moment to thank our sponsors, who's financial support helps keep the bits flipping over here at Wallyhood. This month, we welcome a new sponsor to our ranks, the School of Oom Yung Doe (4319 Stone Way N), teaching the Oom Yung Doe school of martial arts: "Different from typical martial arts, sports or exercise, Oom Yung Doe does not just develop one aspect of a persons condition, but all areas of strength, flexibility, coordination,…

Last week, we offered two pairs of tickets to the Seattle International Film Festival to readers who would donate to a Wallingford-based charity. Well, we've got two more pairs of tickets to give away, so this time, we're going to make it even easier for you. Leave a comment on this post with your suggestion for what you would title a documentary about Wallingford. We'll pick two entries at random to receive the tickets and announce the winner Thursday, in time…

Wednesday is the first Wednesday of the month, meaning it's time again for Wallingford Art Walk, 6 - 9 pm. Seattle Mosaic Arts will be holding their first "Members Show" at their studio (1325 46th Ave N), featuring work created at the studio during their first year. The show is up for month of June, so if you can't make it to the opening, feel stop in and enjoy the art with a cup of coffee. We're not sure what else…
