Tar, Baby

Robert Delaware spotted a mystery at Gas Works Park: a fenced off area with an "Access Restricted" sign: "Due to the ongoing presence of tar, access to this site is restricted." Tar? Really? Like La Brea Tar, or like street tar? The sign said to call David Graves at Seattle Parks and Recreation for more information, so call him, we did. Now, as anyone familiar with Wallingford history knows, Gas Works Park is so named for the gas plant, tar refinery…

Next Up On Iron Chef: Maria Hines

We seem to have some pretty cool celebri-chefs in the neighborhood—what with Rachel and Seif from Joule appearing on Iron Chef America and Tilth’s Maria Hines on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. Continuing the tradition of chefs par excellence in Wallingford, Hines will also be on Iron Chef America.  Tune in Sunday night, August 1 at 10:00 p.m., where she faces some pretty fierce competition from Japanese Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. If you’ve ever wanted to feast like an Iron Chef judge,…

It is known by a wide variety of common names, such as Persian silk tree, pink siris, or…

New Art on the Burke

  • Post author:

The Burke Gilman has a new art piece, pictured below, right above Dunn Lumber at NE Pacific and Latona. The motion of the birds taking flight works beautifully as you pass on a bike, each panel revealing the spreading cluster. No info yet on who the artist is. We'll make some calls and tell you what we learn, but if you know what's up, please share in the comments.

Let’s Talk about the Forums

Sunday morning I was walking near Mighty-O Donuts, when I spied a Wallyhood flyer affixed to a telephone pole.  Upon closer inspection, I noticed a little orange box/icon printed on the flyer with 1) the date it was posted, 2) the date it could be removed, and 3) citation of the applicable city ordinance. Of course, I thought of Burks.  Who just happens to have posted the most recent comment on the Forum titled, "I Didn't Do It." Also, crime is…
