BBQ at Leny’s

Seventeen years we've lived in Wallingford, and the first time we stepped through the door at Leny's Tavern was (oh, the shame) this past Tuesday. We were not disappointed: a fine selection of beer (available in pints or, for the unusually thirsty, liters), two pool tables, an excited buzz of activity, decent lighting and an exceptionally appealing bar menu. And the people? Well, let us tell you about the people. They're so kind they're holding a barbeque this Saturday, July 24th…

One More Day!

Did you see that awesome Les Misbarack YouTube video that came out right before the Changing of the Commander in Chief?  Ever since, I find myself looking for reasons to break into song, singing "One More Day!" Here's this week's excuse:  We've got just one more day to vote in Seattle Weekly's 25th Best of Seattle poll. West Seattle Blog and My Ballard were deemed Best Neighborhood Blog winner and runner-up last year.  After which I do believe I wrote,  "look…

Dim Sum!

The long wait is almost over! This Sunday, July 25th, at precisely 10:30 am, dim sum comes to Wallingford. We caught up with Po Lee, the man behind the storied House of Hong (which he sold after 20 years) and the owner of the new Bamboo Village at corner of Stone Way and N 49th St today as he and his workmen were putting the finishing touches on the restaurant in anticipation of their launch. Po confirmed that they'll be serving…

McDonald School Play Structure

In more McDonald School news, there's a new play structure on the way (or, in the modern lingo, "playscape"). Project Coordinator Kathleen Ellsbury writes: Looks like we'll have a new play structure at McDonald School before long! With funds from the neighborhood, some employers, King County Youth Sports Facilities Grant program, and the City of Seattle's neighborhood Matching Fund, we will be able to prepare for and install the structure below, as well as a concrete border and two concrete disability-compatible…

Hamilton Middle School Grand Opening

Things have become much quieter over at Hamilton--signaling that, with exception of a few finishing touches, the school is ready for the big move.  According to a letter they delivered to homes in the immediate area, we’ll be seeing moving trucks shuttle furniture, equipment and books between Lincoln and the 41st and Densmore side of Hamilton this month and next, as crews prepare for the first day of school on Wednesday, September 8. The letter also announces two public events to…

Shake, Rattle and Roll at Izilla Toys

After a soggy opening day of the Wallingford Farmer's Market back in May our family ran for shelter inside the Wallingford Center to warm up with board games and free pizza at Izilla Toys' Family Game Night.  Their next Family Game night will be Wednesday, July 21st (again, during the Farmers Market) from 5-7 PM. Here's what we found:  Folks gathered around several tables reading instructions, shuffling cards and sorting game pieces.  There was a great assortment - here are some…

Cantinetta says “Grazie!”

  • Post author:

We can think of a few reasons why it would be pretty annoying to live right near Cantinetta. Most of them involve having to shop for new clothes, one size up. Also, we think our family probably wouldn't appreciate our lasagna quite as much if they knew they could go next door and order Pea Tortellini with Prosciutto Parm Brodo. But we would be assuaged, because once a year, Cantinetta thanks its neighbors by hosting a free open house, and that…
