If you've ever looked at all the lush fruit trees around our neighborhood and thought "it's crazy that there are people who can't afford good, fresh produce while beautiful fruit goes to waste", here's your chance to do something about it. Lettuce Link is a program run by Solid Ground in Wallingford that, among other things, coordinates a city-wide team of volunteers to harvest fruit from the trees of willing homeowners. Sadie Beauregard, Lettuce Link's Harvest Coordinator, gave us the scoop:…

You're blindfolded. You're holding a carrot against your head as if it were a rhinoceros horn. You're charging as fast as you can at a tomato painted on a piece of cardboard. Where are you you? Camp Tomato! Camp Tomato 2010, held Meridian Park today, marked the fifth running of the rhinoceroses, as organized by Seattle musician Jason Webley and coterie. It started back in 2005 as, according to the definite source of all knowledge, Wikipedia, "a light-hearted reply to claims…

Alas for the Francophiles, but cheers for the tender-hearted, Joule's Facebook page reveals the answer: To those who love Joule and have been waiting for our new bundle of joy, Pike Jun Jack Chirchi came to this world…

According to the My Wallingford blog, Babalu has managed to get its liquor license back, despite having operated for almost a month without one. While he couldn't get the cabaret / nightclub license (too small), he has managed to convince the liquor license review panel that he'll be adding more than $99 TV dinners to the menu.…

Help Improve Seattle.gov

If you've ever been frustrated at how difficult government web sites are to use, here's your chance to help them improve (and make a little something for yourself while you're at it). Sarah Schacht writes: We're trying to reach out to Wallingford residents and those in northeast Seattle to participate in a usability study of Seattle.gov. The mayor's office and Seattle's Department of Information Technology have committed to using our study to guide redesigning the site. We're in the first round…

Ladybug, Ladybug

The beautiful intersection-wide Ladybug painted at 48th and Burke will be getting a refresh this Sunday afternoon, Carrie M. tells us. The ladybug was created six years ago as the brainchild of Eric Higbee, who has put photos of early sketches and the creation of the bug on his web site. Every year, a group of neighbors get together to refresh it and enjoy a bit of sunshine and comraderie, and this year, it's this weekend. Stop over and join the…
