Wallyhood Endorsements

We're not going to do across the ballot endorsements this election year. Instead, we're going to focus on three initiatives that we think are particularly important. We have lived so long without a state income tax in Washington that it sounds like heresy. It also sounds…

Obama Roadblocks

Don't be surprised if it's a little tough to get around parts of Seattle tomorrow, POTUS is in town. The details of his schedule aren't made public for obvious reasons, but we did get this advisory: Tomorrow morning there will likely be closures on local streets as the President attends an event at a private residence, and then attends an event at 11 a.m. at the Edmundson Pavilion on Montlake Boulevard NE next to Husky Stadium. A public auction of the store's fixtures and equipment will be held at the space (2201 N 56th St.) tomorrow…

Don’t Surrender to the Fearists

Wallingford, it is your moral and civic duty to hand out candy to the children of strangers next week. Parents, if you do not let your children go door to door at your neighbors' houses collecting goodies, you are surrendering all that is good and dear in America to the fearists. Yes, the fearists! Like terrorists, fearists undermine our society by sowing distrust and uncertainty everywhere we go. Fearists don't bomb buildings, but they still chip away at the things that…

If you haven't checked out the responses to Paul Dorpat's historical puzzler (he posted photos taken around the turn of the century in Wallingford and challenged readers to figure out where they were taken), you should. It will make you see the neighborhood in a fresh light. And if you entered and won (we chose seven winners in all!), be sure to e-mail your address to [email protected] so we can drop off your prizes. We'll be loading DVD's and jars of…
