Memorial at Gas Works

Just saw this photo posted to Twitter by Natalie Greco of a memorial at Gas Works, where people were putting candles in balloons and setting them afloat. She says she's not sure what the memorial is for, but "People were calling out names as they released them. Then clapping as they flew off." Beautiful. Anyone know more? Update: Nicole found that the Japanese lantern ceremony was for a man named Luke, who passed away from cancer this past Monday. There is…

The Animals Among Us

There's been some chatter in the Forums this week about some of our furry friends, and one fowl (who lived) among us. First off, Magpiegirl tells us that she found a dead chicken in her back yard last weekend, on 35th and Densmore.  She adds, "We've seen raccoons in our yard before and recently chose not to have chickens because of that. Our neighbor's coop one street up is fine so far and they are keeping their hens safely in the…

Wallingford Home Tour Saved

Back in September, we reported that the Wallingford Home Tour, slated for October, had been canceled, due in part by lack of homeowners' participation. Now we have confirmation from the latest WEaving Wallingford's Weekend E-News that the Wallingford Home Tour is a "go"!  The…

Unfortunately, Sharon won't be able to decorate or to host Santa this year.  Here's what she asked Santa to tell us: "I'm sorry to say that Santa will not be rocking on Sharon's porch this year.  Sharon can not take time to do the…

4 Your Eyes Takes 1st Prize

There was at least one Wallingford first place winner in King 5's Best of Western Washington poll: 4 Your Eyes Only Optical in Wallingford Center took the Best Eyewear category. Congratulations! To be fair, Dick's, which has a Wallingford location (its first) took Best Burger (we can only assume that the bulk of Seattle has just never tried Red Mill, which has fewer locations) and Desert Sun Tanning took Best Tanning Salon, but they're based on Maple Valley. King 5, you're…

Among the thirty or so neighbors in attendance, we finally got the chance to meet folks like Anne, Mike Ruby, John, SeattleAlan, Peg, Kimberly, and Shirley.  Many of you told us…
