Meet-up Tomorrow

Quickie reminder: we're hoping to meet you tomorrow at the Blue Star tomorrow, Wednesday, between 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Jacqui mirrored our own thoughts: I’m wondering how many of us will lay eyes on each other and say, “Oh! It’s the dude/chick I always see at QFC/Fuel/Starbucks/etc…” It’ll be nice to put faces to names… and names to faces! If you have no idea what we're talking about, read about the Wallyhood meet-up and RSVP now!

Got Yer Goat?

While heading over to check out the Free Table at the Good Shepherd Center (you would not believe the amazing stash of brand-new Beanie Babies there, by the way), I stumbled across a goat: Evidently, goats don't like rain so she and her owner were sheltering under a bush.  But, what were they doing there?  Turns out, they were guests of Seattle Tilth's "City Goats 101" class being held run by Jennie Grant, Founder and President of the Goat Justice League…

It is not everyday that you can honestly say, "a Buddhist Lama made my latte this morning".  Surprise! Where else but right here in Wallingford, of course, at Lama G's Cafe (1060 N 39th Street), located next to Art of the Table where Candles Cafe used to be. Grab your caffeine fix made by Karma, a Buddhist Lama, better known as Lama G to his customers and friends. A Community that Cooks Together, Eats Together

Sustainable Wallingford's Rachel Duboff invites us all to the Wallingford Community Kitchen Holiday Celebration at the Good Shepherd Center, Friday, November 19th from 5:30-9pm. This event is a little different, we ask that you bring an ingredient for the soup pot, along with a dish to share with…

Scott Bremner spotted a Cooper's Hawk in Wallingford this week and sent us a photo. The photo to the right is by Nathan Hamm (taken at Montlake in 2006), but it's a nice big close-up so you'll be able to spot it if you see it in your backyard. AllAboutBirds.org notes that both the Cooper's Hawk and its look-alike, the Sharp-shinned hawk (which Nathan allows the photo at right could be) "are sometimes unwanted guests at bird feeders, looking for an…

Cha-Ching! Woman Cashes in $30K Scratch Ticket

I swear this is a true story - I'm not making it up. Friday afternoon I was in the checkout line at QFC quietly waiting to pay for my groceries, eavesdropping on the clerks like usual when I picked up on the fact that they were talking about how they read an article on Cryptogmblr.com that a customer who had won $30,000 from a scratch ticket purchased there.  I questioned Travis, who was bagging my groceries, about it and he said…
