Is the ‘Festering Pit’ closer to being filled?

Margaret Margaret December 17, 2010 3 Comments

Last month, we ran a festering pit update, thanks to reader Darcey, who tipped us off to a renewed permit for the hole at 3920 Stone Way N. When we spoke to Scott Brewer, Director of Construction at Redimensions, he told us that it was simply a permit renewal, and that the property’s future was still uncertain, given the financing issues involved with it.

This morning, the Seattle Times reported that Redimensions (referring to the company as an affiliate for Prescott Homes) actually purchased the property from QFC yesterday, and in addition to the permit issued in mid-November, there was another permit issued on November 30 for the following:

Phase III of III to establish use as Multifamily structure, retail, restaurant,live/work. And structural and architectural completion of mixed use building and occupy per plan.

Mr. Brewer wasn’t available for comment today, but it seems we’re inching closer to getting that hole filled.  That, in itself, would be a Christmas miracle, though I still have visions of the hole converted to a gigantic ball pit…(sigh)…dare to dream.

Hope it turns out to be a beautiful addition to our neighborhood and not another lesson to near-neighbor opposition on how best to get yourself out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Oh, it’s a Festivus miracle!!! I remember watching the demolition with my then-2-year-old. He’s in first grade now. I hope the new ownership works out, preferably before the kid graduates.

Finally (perhaps) – which does not excuse QFC’s abysmal performance on this project or their shabby treatment of the immediate neighborhood.

    The boycott will be expanded!
