Wallingford Greenhouse Project Needs Volunteers

Calling all Wallingford green thumbs! The Greenhouse Project is looking to recruit some volunteers to help grow fresh and organic produce for local food banks.  Volunteers will be dedicating their time towards growing thousands of vegetable starts in a lower Wallingford greenhouse, which then will be distributed by Lettuce Link to P-Patches around the city.  All vegetables will then be donated to food banks. Wallingford student awarded for ‘Neighbor’ art

Mayor Mike McGinn and Seattle Councilmember Mike O'Brien were at Hamilton International Middle School yesterday to honor the top 15 winners of the 2011 Neighbor Appreciation Day Student Art Contest. Three of the budding artists are students at Hamilton, including one winner, Page Victoria Robinson, who lives in Wallingford.  The winning drawings reflect what it means to be a good neighbor, and Page was among five of the winners who were given a Crystal Award and art supplies. Fallen fir on 46th

Brian London and Justin Ivy wrote to tell us that half of a large Douglas Fir fell earlier today at 46th and Eastern, due to the high winds.  The fallen tree is blocking 46th, so folks, be careful driving around there! Update from Brian at 4:51: Someone cut part of the tree away and SDOT came out and cordoned off the sidewalk but they left the rest, presumably because they need more equipment to safely remove the heavier, higher up portion.

It's 3 am, there's someone screaming in your dream. As you push up through the sticky morass of your slumber, you slowly realize there's someone screaming in real life, outside your window. There's a woman yelling at a car. Is she hurt? Drunk? Tweaking? Mentally ill? What are you supposed to do?
