Stoneway Village Update

Here's a look at what's happening at the Stoneway Village construction site, plus a call to artists interested in making metal sculptures and signage: The last of the excavation and shoring work at the south end of the project is being completed.  The major work that is currently happening is the contraction of the concrete slabs.  The onsite workers have enjoyed the visitors that routinely walk by the site and peer into fence to see the work that is going on. …

FamilyWorks Annual Puppet Show

When I was a kid, one of my uncles was a minister.  A minister who traveled with marionettes, spreading the gospel through singing, dancing puppets.  No, I'm not kidding.  It was a lot of fun.  And now I know why I love The Sound of Music so much. Anyway, speaking of fun with puppets (minus the gospel in this case), the annual Puppet Show Fundraiser at FamilyWorks is upon us!  Saturday May 14th 3:30-5pm. REED Painting was founded seven years ago in a house at 39th &…

Everything looked scrubbed and ready for tourists summertime.   North 34th street looked just as good as North 45th did after the Wallingford Community Council's Spring Clean last month. Did I miss a community clean up event in lower Wallingford? No, I did not. Avtech employees are responsible.  I spotted a few of them with…

The No Phone Books Are Here!

Hey, remember phone books? Those huge, alphabetical tomes that listed the telephone number of everybody in a particular area, one-by-one. And then there were "yellow pages" (so called because of the color the paper used) that were business listings indexed by business type. Yeah, kids, that's the way they did it before the Internet. What, they still deliver phone books? Seriously? To people who don't even want them? And businesses actually pay to have advertisements in the yellow pages when they…
