Art for the Burke

Remember when that art project popped up along the Burke near Dunn Lumber? And then a few weeks later, it disappeared? What up with that? Well, the city is trying to get more art to pop up along the Burke, and you could the be the artist. Without further ado, we bring you their press release: The Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), seeks an artist or artist team to develop…

Bike to dinner on Tuesday

Want to have dinner out tomorrow night? Grab your bike instead of driving, and head to one of these host restaurants participating in the second annual Spoke & Food event. The restaurants will in turn donate 20% off their total revenues towards the Children's Garden Education programs at Seattle Tilth. If you want to ride in the neighborhood, Julia's is one of the participating restaurants. If you're interested in going a little further, look at the list of host restaurants here.…

Cantinetta Block Party Tonight

Tuscany has long had a special place in our heart. When we left our 10 year gig at large Redmond-based software concern 4 years ago, we rented our house, packed a few changes of clothes in our backpacks and took off for Europe for a few months. We meandered our way down through France, into northern Spain, bopped over to Berlin, but spent the bulk of time in central Italy. It was exactly what we needed: slow food, slow cities, timeless…

Woodland Park Cooperative Preschool Moves to Fremont

Toby at Woodland Park Cooperative Preschool sent us the following announcement about their recent move from Phinney Ridge to Fremont: We’re happy to announce that our preschool has found a new home at the Fremont Baptist Church. (Wallingford Cooperative Preschool on Keystone is also a part of the NSCC co-op system.) Although our…

You Don’t See One of These Every Day

I haven’t received any urgent garden questions from Wallyhood readers lately, so I decided to take a tour around to see if there were any notable horticultural wonders. Wallybits: Storefront Edition

We've seen some new stores crop up in Wallingford lately, with a few more appearing on the horizon. Here's what we know so far: Chroma Salon (1905 N. 45th St.) is now open for business. Look for the announcement for their official grand opening, slated for the weekend of July 9. There's some movement inside the old Alterations and Reweaving place (1601 N. 45th St.). Reader Dave Yao writes:Walking by the corner store where an elderly woman had for many years…

Essentially, you’re stuck here tomorrow

This is just a reminder that the Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon takes place tomorrow morning at 7am.  It starts in Tukwila, (which means I-5 southbound will be a mess), and ends at Qwest CenturyLink Field. Runners will have fine views along Lake Washington, and then they'll choke up the I-90 Express Lanes leading downtown. But most importantly, both directions of SR 99/Aurora Avenue up to N 39th St./Bridge Way closes at 5:30 am and stays shut down until 2:00 pm…
