Goddess Festival: Kid-Friendly, Adult Happy

Tomorrow is the second (and, if the organizers have their way, the larger) of the two Wallingford music festivals, The Goddess Festival.  It runs from 11 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday in Meridian Park and includes a line-up of music, comedy, vendors and other funness. Now, if you're like us, when you think "music festival", you think mud-spattered pits of drunken twenty-somethings, passing poorly rolled joints and water bottles filled with Gatorade and Everclear. What, that's not how you spent your…

Last call for food drive

A few days ago, we told you about the food drive organized by some very thoughtful neighborhood teens. Grace and her friends busily collected donations from people's porches yesterday, but she wanted to let everyone know that people can still drop food donations in bags at these drop points over the next few days: 3727 Burke Ave N 3634 Woodlawn Ave N 3814 Densmore Ave N Here's a pic of the girls today with some of the neighborhood's donations.

Last year, Jordan created a Yard Art Map, showing locations of outdoor art scattered through the neighborhood, and asked readers to contribute to the map by adding more art spots. Since then, the map's grown to about 20 pieces Wallingford-wide, and it just goes to show ya--we've got some great outdoor art! The organizers of Wallingford Walks agree, which is why at this Saturday, they'll be roaming around the neighborhood to enjoy our neighborhood's yard and public art. Everyone is invited…

Jeffrey McCaslin to be sentenced on Friday

Back in May, we told you about Jeffrey McCaslin---the guy who called himself "Eric" and burglarized a few homes in the neighborhood. Then, two weeks later, we reported that he had been apprehended. Now, reader Anya tells us his sentencing is this Friday, and since hers was one of the homes burglarized, she'll be there to make a statement. She's provided information below, in case there are other neighbors who would also like to come forward: My house got broken into…

Rachel Duboff, the chef behind the Wallingford Community Kitchen events, just dropped us a line about a special and unusual happening this month: I had the chance to spend last summer in Italy. As a going away gift a friend gave me the book, Tales of a Female Nomad. I consumed it as though it spoke directly to me.  A few months later, I learned of a new book that Rita had written, Female Nomad & Friends: Tales of Breaking Fee…

Metro debunks myths about Metro

Or that's the idea anyway. Metro has sent out a reminder that the King County Council votes next week to implement a two-year $20 car tab fee, or to let the voters decide in November whether to cut 600,000 service hours. Yeah, that's 600,000 service hours.  The stakes are high for commuters. The King County Council will vote on Monday, August 15th.  Public testimony has been closed--the Council will take final action at the August 15 meeting. Included in the Metro…
