Uptown Espresso honors Veterans by giving back

In honor of Veterans Day tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 11), all of the Uptown Espresso locations, including the Wallingford store (2300 N. 45th St.), will donate 100% of its proceeds to American Lake Veterans Golf Course. Located in Lakewood, the American Lake Veterans Golf Course has been serving the military since it opened in 1955, and since 1995, it's been operated and maintained exclusively by volunteers after the government cut off its funding. Thanksgiving Help

Wallingford neighbor and food blogger Judy Ramey is planning to cook an entire Thanksgiving meal for residents of the Plymouth Housing Group and she's seeking a few volunteers in the neighborhood who are willing to donate just a couple of hours the night before to help. She's got two people coming so far, and is looking for three more folks to help peel, chop, and prep. In her blog, Eat! The best food in the world, Judy writes: Come on over…

Metro at QFC

Last month, Margaret told us about proposed King County Metro route changes that would eliminate the #26 local and change other bus routes in Wallingford and beyond.  If you missed her earlier post, you can read it here. Thanks to my colleague Judy, who attended one of the big public meetings downtown, I learned about a Wallingford Metro event taking place this Sunday at the QFC.  It's posted on the Metro calendar as well.  Actually, the calendar says it's an "information…

Vote

Don't forget to mail in your ballot today. Sure, it's a vanishingly small probability that your single vote will have any actual impact, and you could even argue that the act of voting is a pacifier, preventing you from taking more direct and meaningful action to change the course of our country by convincing yourself that you've "participated in democracy", but if you all you do is give yourself the satisfaction of voting No on Tim Eyman's latest piece of greed-driven…
