PEPS Lecture: Choosing the Right Preschool

With all of the excellent preschool choices offered in the area, it can be downright maddening to decide which one will be the right fit for your child; but here's a lecture offered by PEPS that may help to take away some of the guesswork: Choosing the Right Preschool co-sponsored by PEPS and Grow Parenting with Anoo Padte Monday, April 9th, 6:30pm Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave. N.) This workshop covers information on early childhood learning and preschools. Some of the topics…

Adopt-a-Street Cleanup

If you dial the way-back-machine, you'll find that the first ever post on Wallyhood was about a group of folks living around Latona below 45th who adopted their street for regular clean-ups. Blessedly, they're still at it. This Sunday, April 1st the optimistically named East Wallingford Hot Tub Association will be hosting a spring clean-up of the streets in their neighborhood beginning at 10 am. Says they: Officially we have adopted 4th, Latona, and Thackeray between 40th and 46th although with enough people…

Wallingford Family Fair

Save the date! July 7th will be the 63rd annual Wallingford Seafair Kiddies Parade, but the "Street Fair" part will be getting a new name and location. Strange happenings in the ‘hood

A reader wrote to tell us about a strange encounter last week, and wants to know if anyone else has seen this person around the neighborhood: Has anyone else encountered a youngish man-early 20's-military style hair cut, bright yellow jacket?  As I left my house Monday morning 5:50AM he was on Latona between 43rd and 44th examining the cracks in the sidewalk carefully with a small flashlight. He was acting paranoid and most likely tripping. As I got in my car…

Last week of the Recycling Challenge

It's crunch time for ten neighborhoods competing in the Think Green Recycling Challenge. The contest ends with waste collection on Friday, March 30, your last chance to get the heavy stuff into your recycling and food waste carts and go skimpy (but of course) on garbage. Remember, Wallingford and our neighbors to the north could win $50,000 to spend on a community project if we continue to recycle more tonnage than other Waste Management customers, compared to last year. Want to…
