Fuerte Deal

Been thinking of making good on that New Year's resolution? The Green Lake Mom's Deal Coop deal is $49 for a 10 class punch card at Wallingford's own Fuerte Fitness (a Wallyhood sponsor): Workout classes are great, but attending the same class week after week tends to lose its charm. What if there was a way to keep both your body and brain entertained by trying a variety of classes? Look no further than the array of classes offered at Fuerte…

Incident outside JSIS

It's every mother's nightmare: you're walking down the street with your child, when you hear tires squeal and a shout "Police! Get on the ground!" As if the terror of being caught in a potential crossfire weren't enough, the scene, involving five police cars and drawn guns, unfolded right outside the John Stanford International School as children were leaving the school building: how to protect yourself, your child and children a half a block away, and far beyond shouting range? Mrs. Wallyhood,…

Recycling Challenge February Update: We’re # 2 !

The results from the Think Green Recycling Challenge for February are in, and Wallingford's Friday North route slipped into second place. Our diversion rate lagged behind that of Friday South, represented by Rainier Beach Community Club, by a mere .06% . The last day of the entire Recycling Challenge contest was March 30, so all of the garbage, recycling, and food waste that is going to be weighed has been weighed, so there's nothing more we can do there.  Results for…

Color Without Fear

Patricia has been an architect in Wallingford for over 30 years. Her Wallyhood role is to provide a forum about Wallingford architecture. She looks forward to hearing from you! Are you thinking about a color change for your house? Perhaps not the exterior, maybe just a room or two? In our neighborhood, you’ve seen strong house…

If you've got any of the following you're willing to part with, or you have a little bit of time with technical know-how, drop her a line at [email protected]. They need: · 2 New (or almost new?) PC's with the latest version of Microsoft Office. · A black and…

Good Pesach!

Tonight at sundown begins Passover, perhaps the raddest Jewish holiday of them all. Sure, Chanukah gets all the attention because of its proximity to Christmas (thus leading to Jewsmas, our creation, but that's another story). However, we have always been partial to Passover. Why? So glad you asked. Passover is a celebration of the Jews escape from slavery in Egypt, throwing off the shackles of oppression and becoming a free people again. And the story isn't a slow, grinding process of…

Chroma Salon

Wallyhood welcomes our newest sponsor, Chroma Salon and Spa, located at 1905 North 45th Street. Owned by Bryce Francis and Dan Deaver, Chroma Salon and Spa has been open in Wallingford just shy of one year and they recently opened their second location in Downtown Seattle at the Alexis Hotel. Here's a little about their business: We have been Wallingford residents for the last six years and have truly enjoyed getting to know our neighbors. Our salon and spa is built around a team…
