Reminder: Seattle Night Out

Jordan Jordan July 31, 2012 Comments are off

Block pARTyHave you sussed out your Night Out plans yet? It’s not too late!

Next Tuesday, August 7th is the annual Night Out Against Crime, a national event that “encourages neighbors to gather and spend time together in an effort to heighten crime prevention/awareness and increase neighborhood safety.”

And, you know, get to know each other. Because you’re neighbors.

For the past three years, we’ve toured the various block parties around Wallingford (hitting 7 – 10 and still barely covering a quarter of the neighborhood) and found plenty of pockets of wonderfulness and welcomingness. It doesn’t take much to have a block party (you’ve already got the block, after all), so if you haven’t already contacted your neighbors about it, we highly recommend you do.

Here’s what the SPD says you should do, but honestly, all you NEED to do is walk out front with a lawn chair.

If your neighborhood has never experienced a Night Out, we encourage you to get involved this year. It is easy to sign your block up:

  1. Register your neighborhood using our online form
  2. Add your event to the public map (optional, you can keep your event private too).
  3. Invite your neighbors by printing off the materials on our website. A street closure sign is available too.
  4. And finally, get involved in the conversation about Night Out by “liking” our Night Out Facebook Page.

More information about Night Out can be found on the SPD Blotter and the SPD dedicated Night Out page.

And if don’t mind a guy on a bike coming by and picking at your deviled eggs and helping himself to a beer, post where your Night Out event is in the comments section here, for me and your neighbors.
