Wallingford Wins! Kids on 45th Lives on with New Owner

Julie Martin May 29, 2017 12 Comments

In a time with plenty of bad news, I’m thrilled to announce that this small business will NOT be closing its doors. Kids on 45th, which we shared about in this January article, has been sold and is looking at a bright future with new owner, Elise Worthy.

Serendipity

It all began when Elise, a Wallingford mom of two boys (Isaac, 3, and Cooper, 8 months), missed her consignment appointment. “I called to reschedule and they refused, stating they were closing. I think it was the day they had decided to shut the door,” shared Elise over coffee recently. “I …

A new life for Kids on 45th?

Julie Martin January 20, 2017 Comments are off

If you have kids or shop for kids, it is likely you have had the pleasure of finding treasures at Wallingford’s own Kids on 45th, a bustling consignment store which sells new and used clothes, toys and baby gear.  Early on with our son, we would be in there every other week finding that cool new shaker toy or a baby food mill to try or taking home seemingly untouched pants from…France?  And we also enjoy bringing things back to receive in-store credit and for other families to enjoy (that musical walker that he played with for weeks …

Apply for Funds to Support Your Neighborhood Night Out 2016 Activities!

One of our family’s favorite hallmarks of summer is Seattle’s Annual “Night Out” – a city-wide event of local gatherings for the purpose of encouraging neighbors to come together and deter crime. In north Wallingford, this usually takes the form of good eats, cold drinks and kids on bicycles whizzing around a closed off street. I love the chance to get to know people who live in houses I pass by all of the time and hear about concerns or ideas directly related to our ‘hood.

If your block has not yet picked up the tradition, it’s easy to get …

Update: Coming Soon for the Guild 45th?

Julie Martin April 25, 2016 3 Comments

The Landmark Board Preservation meeting held on Wednesday, April 6th took up the nomination of the Guild 45th Theatre submitted by the current owners, Landmark Theatres.  While I was ill and unable to attend, I gratefully received the following notes from Brooke Best of Historic Seattle (this great organization is a Wallingford resident!):

The architectural consultant, Chris Hetzel, confirmed that the owners submitted the nomination because they were considering to upgrade the interior to accommodate 4 to 5 screens, but “had no plans” to change the exterior façade. He said that they are planning to submit redevelopment plans …

Coming Soon for the Guild 45th?

Julie Martin March 26, 2016 2 Comments

(Wallyhood welcomes Julie Martin, the first of a stream of new writers you’ll be meeting in the coming weeks.)

At night, the bright blaze of the Guild 45th marquee can make you feel like you’re standing in the middle of downtown, instead of the center of little Wallingford. As a teenager growing up in the neighborhood, it was especially great to have such a majestic movie house in walking distance. My best friend and I lived on opposite sides 45th and met in the middle for shows.

In the years since, we have grown into families and homes …
