Must be Fall- U District Chow Down Returns

lbush September 27, 2024 Comments are off

Hello Wallingford neighborhood, as summer has turned into fall, I would like to let the community know of an upcoming fun event in the University District.  As beautiful as the cherry blossoms are in spring, the return of UW students coincides with the U District Chow Down.

The 4th Annual U District Chow Down & Street Party on the Ave below 45th St is once again set to take over Seattle’s University District on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 11am to 8pm. With over 60 restaurants offering an array of $5 bites, visitors will have a chance to fill their …

Toddlers Like Sushi Too

Children's tray of Japanese food

Craving some sushi but don’t feel like leaving the neighborhood with toddler(s) in tow? Fret not! Nestled into an old home on 45th is a sweet little Japanese restaurant called Kozue. They’ve been open for about 2 decades and unlike most restaurants, in my humble opinion, they’ve gotten better!  Kozue is one of my families’ go-to when we’re craving Japanese food and want to stay hyper-local. We’ve been regulars for almost 5 years, sporadic dropper-inners before that.

One reason we love coming here is that we always get a table. Now of course we’re coming during ‘small child family …

Show Your Support for Lincoln High School Football

lbush September 18, 2024 Comments are off

Just 5 years ago Lincoln High School in Wallingford re-opened and today the school is thriving with over 1700 students, 1200 student athletes, including earning a state baseball championship and a boy’s state soccer title.  Additionally, this growth puts the school into the Class 4A Washington State bracket, providing an even more competitive level of competition.

In addition to developing student athletes, members of the various sports teams can be seen off the field out in the community supporting neighborhood activities.  For example, the cheerleaders participated in the Wallingford parade this year and members of the football team have participated …

To Turf or Not to Turf: Wallingford Playfield

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi September 13, 2024 6 Comments

If you’re involved with Seattle Public Schools in any capacity, it feels nearly impossible to think about anything other than the looming list of elementary school closures. Here in Wallingford, parents (myself included) are buzzing with questions about the fate of Dual Language Immersion programs at John Stanford International School (JSIS) and McDonald Elementary.
