Molly Movie?

Jordan January 18, 2009 2 Comments

We saw this intriguing sign in Molly Moon’s Ice Cream Shop’s window this evening:

Another Robin William’s film? Late-breaking Sundance entry? Inquiring minds want to know!

We’ve sent Molly an inquiry and will let you know what we hear.

Update (1/18/09): Molly responded:

i actually don’t know the name of the film. it’s an indie short that will be at sundance, but i don’t know much more than that. they’re filming a scene in my shop this morning. i’ll try to let you know when they send me a copy!

Wallyhood is suspicious. Sounds like a scam to be left …

Spreading The Word

Wallyhood took it on the road today, walking up 45th Street, visiting businesses and dropping off these beautiful cards (right) designed by Wallingford graphic designer Heidi Smets (thanks, Heidi!).

It was a great opportunity to meet business owners we didn’t know and simply go in shops we’d never been in (like Seattle Mopeds, who promised to let us know when their upcoming fundraiser party would be). After determining that we weren’t trying to sell anything, they were all gracious and excited about the Wallyhood community blog…

…With the exception of the rude crone at the Erotic Bakery, who inexplicably just …

Repatriate Your Loot

Jordan January 15, 2009 Comments are off

Relevant to my Home Invasion post yesterday, I just read in the Beacon Hill blog that the Seattle Police Department broke up a major burglary ring this past month, and now has over $1 million worth of stolen stuff waiting to be returned to its rightful owners. There are full details on the SPDBlotter on how to review and claim the material, and the Seattle P-I has kindly posted photos of the loot. Wallingford is in the East Precinct, but the SPD site indicates that only the East, North and West precincts have CD’s of the goods, so be sure…

Ancient Wallingford

Shortly after college, I spent a few months tramping around Israel and the Sinai, hosteling, thumbing and generally doing the post-college vagabond thing. At one point, I met a girl (no, not like that) who was doing her graduate work in archaeology at an excavation at a tell in Northwestern Israel. A tell is a hill that has been formed through the accretion material from ongoing human occupation: one civilization built on top of another on top of another.

Having nothing better to do with my time, I followed her there and spent a week digging and sifting through the …

Home Invasion

Jordan January 14, 2009 4 Comments

I received a horrible e-mail from a Capitol Hill friend this past Sunday:

We were home upstairs, with the lights on. The door bell at our upper door (split level entry) rang a few times in quick succession, followed by a brief wait, and another few rings. We stayed quiet; discussing whether or not to see what was up.

Shortly thereafter, they tried to kick in our lower door and break the frame. This shook the front of the house and was very forceful. At this point I came downstairs while T—- phoned 911. I looked out the window and …

Wayward Music Ho

Jordan January 13, 2009 Comments are off

Best I can tell, there’s the greatest concert series I never heard of going on at the Good Shepherd Center’s Chapel performance space this month. In this week alone, Thursday (1/15) is the second of three IS THAT JAZZ? festival performances produced by the Seattle Composers’ Salon, Friday (1/16) the Washington Composers’ Forum present the MAD Trio as part of their Transport Series and Saturday (1/17) Seattle Improvised Music puts on an evening of one minute solos to benefit their Improvised Music Festival.

Looking ahead, I see my friend and neighbor Lesli Dalaba playing with Eric Glick-Rieman and Stuart Dempster …

Rogue Painter

Jordan January 12, 2009 2 Comments

I’ve always been a huge fan of street art, both because art that isn’t framed in the context of a gallery or museum feels more “real” and because unexpected beauty is the best kind. That’s why it was such a giggle to find these paintings nailed to telephone polls in South Wallingford, in the 37th and Bagley area.

Anyone know who the artist is?

(Michelle took the first two photos. I missed the third painting entirely until I saw this shot by mcoughlin in the Wallingford Flickr group)…
