Mi Piace, RIP

Jordan Jordan August 11, 2009 2 Comments

Rock reminded us that Mi Piace, the little coffeestand that has been serving lattes to humans and biscuits to dogs from the parking lot of QFC for over 20 years, closed up shop for good this past Sunday. The owner, Teresa Dean, will be headed inside to the remodeled QFC’s coffee shop when it opens. The Mi Piace building, including espresso machine and grinder, is for sale for $2,000. Fond memories included.

Awwww — I thought I’d seen somewhere that QFC had done the right thing and opted to have Mi Piace as its coffee maker, but no — she’ll be working for Starbucks. Her sister (?) and other employee will be going to a new coffee stand at Not A Number. Mi Piace has such a long history in this neighborhood, it’s really sad to see them go. Theresa’s sister was the original owner, and was killed in an automobile accident many years ago; her partner was critically injured, and permanently disabled, I believe. Mi Piace has always been sort of a memorial to the sister.

Don’t suppose dogs will be able to go upstairs for biscuits at the new place?

Ya, I was also disappointed when I learned Starbucks would be in the remodeled QFC and not Mi Piace.
