Coffee Contest Winners (and new contest)

  • Post author:

Last week, we posted a contest: suggest a new set of poetry for the window of Open Books and we’ll pick our favorite and one at random to receive a bag of locally roasted Pangaea Oganica Coffee. At the time, we mentioned that we hadn’t actually checked with the owners of Open Books as to whether they would take our suggestions.

Well, we did drop them a note and, wouldn’t you know it, between the last time we walked by their shop and when we posted the contest, they went ahead and put a new poem up. We haven’t been by, but we’re told it’s a tribute to the baseball. They also noted that they’re a bit possessive about what goes in the window (and spend more time then they ought picking just the right poem, which must be available in store), so all we can do is share the poem we (narcissistically) chose:

If you happen to alight
in the very dead of night
to wander by our little store
Please take a glance or maybe more.

We are a tiny neighbors’ gem
As mentioned every now and then
by a blog called “Wallyhood”.
where good friends notice what is good.

Drawing neighbors in to see
what makes us all “community”
Be it blog online or store next door.
Thank you, (Wallyhood and Open Books!) ever more!

We highly encourage you to read the other entries, as there are some really beautiful ones in there. But for now, L, who penned the above and Terry Rasmussen, who we picked at random, you’ve each got a delicious bag of fresh-roasted in Wallingford Pangaea Organica Coffee.

And now, for the next contest:

This one will be a photo contest, the theme: Wallingford in Autum. Snap a photo, upload it wherever you like (but preferably to the Wallingford Flickr Pool) and post a link to it as a comment on this post (or one of the reminders that will follow).

Deadline is Sunday, 10/25 at midnight. We’ll award two bags of coffee, one for the best overall picture and one for the best shot taken with a mobile phone.

Thanks again to Pangaea Organica, artisan roasters of fair trade coffee who deliver beans in the Wallingford area, for donating the prizes.

Jordan

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
