Flicker
No, we didn’t mis-spell the name of the photo sharing service. We’re talking about the the Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus), a medium-sized member of the woodpecker family. We had the great pleasure of sitting down to an intimate dinner last night with Jamie Pedersen, the state representative for the 43rd district (that’s you, Wallingford, and parts of Fremont, Green Lake, Ravenna, U District, Eastlake, Cap Hill, Madison Park and Downtown). Our friends Scott and Karen “bought” the dinner as part of a fundraiser for the Wallingford United Methodist Church, home to the (religiously unaffiliated) Wallingford Child Care Center and generously invited us, along with three other friends, along.
Before we anything else, we want to wish Jamie a huge congratulations on the birth of triplets! Jamie and …
The Last Beekeeper
We have no idea how this one snuck up on us. We blog about things going on around Wallingford. We keep bees in Wallingford. You’d think someone would have told us that the Meaningful Movies showing this Friday night is entitled “The Last Beekeeper” and will feature UW entomologist Dr. Evan Sugden:
Bees are vanishing. Examining the enormity of this loss, Jeremy Simmons’ documentary THE LAST BEEKEEPER follows the lives of three commercial beekeepers (from South Carolina, Montana, and Washington) over the course of a year as they struggle with Colony Collapse Disorder. When they take their bees to California’s …
