Bella Cosa reborn: Avila!

Jordan Jordan November 5, 2009 17 Comments

The window cleaners at Bella Cosa (1711 N. 45th Street) must be getting sick and tired of wiping off the nose prints from the crowd of eager eaters trying to see through the butcher paper in the window, waiting for their re-opening. Well, take a break window cleaners and save your appetite eager eaters, we just heard from Alex Pitts that they’re ready to re-open under their new name, Avila:

Well, it wouldnt be much of a restaurant opening without delays, cost overruns, and drama; with that said we finally have an official opening date: Tuesday the 10th we’ll be open for dinner! Mostly friends and family but we’ll be taking some walk-ins as well.

We’ll be open Tuesday-Saturday for dinner and of course for Sunday Brunch starting on the 15th.  Lunch will probably have to wait a week or two – I want it to be spectacular when we do it and there are still some kinks to work out. But when we get there we’ll have quite an ambitious little delicatessen offering approx 12 different sandwiches, sides, salads, breads, pickles, cured meats, an incredible cheese selection and other goodies.

Question for you: we want to do a weekly Wallingford Family Night at the restaurant: something dirt-cheap and more kid-friendly– a chance for us to relax, cook some homestyle favorites, and get to know the neighbors, but we can’t decide whether Sunday or Monday nights work better–do your readers have any thoughts?

So, readers, what say ye? Do you like the idea of a Wallingford Family Night, with some dift-cheap, kid-friendly meals, some homestyle favorites? If so, what night would you prefer, Sunday or Monday?

For us, we’d take Sunday in a heartbeat. With Baby Z’s bedtime at around 8ish, if we want to really get to sit down and enjoy a meal, it’s go to start early, earlier than we get off work on a weekday. But the idea of taking a stroll around 4 or 5 pm, stopping at Wallingford Playfield to work up an appetite, then sitting down to a delicious meal made (and cleaned up) by someone else for a few hours…well, go ahead and put a dollop of whipped cream on that slice of heaven.

I would vote for Sunday night as well. The weekdays are so hectic with other activities. A family friendly cheap meal on a Sunday would be very much welcomed!

I just walked by Avila and noticed that the only beer listed on their menu is Rainier. Hopefully you can BYOB from Bottleworks…

I prefer Mondays. Sunday is sort of our home day. But after the first day back to work, it would be great to not cook!

Sunday please. For most families Mondays are the beginning of a week of homework, sports, night meetings, etc. Sunday would be a nice way to relax before that busy week!

I’m going to have to vote for Sunday myself as well. I never get to upper Wallingford during the week, but I’m up there often on Sundays.

I prefer Monday but anything tot friendly would be great. I second the suggestion to have better beer.

Looks like Sunday it is……thanks for all the input! By the way we’ve updated the beer list and will have six on tap (Rainier is not one) including Carlsberg, Lagunitas and of course PBR. Can’t wait to be open…….cheers!
