H1N1 Vaccine Available

3491564892_76b65b579d_mWe know that it’s been a bit of a circus for those trying to get the H1N1 vaccine, so here’s some useful info we got from Stacy just an hour ago:

A little birdie just told me that King County is offering H1N1 vaccines today to anyone who wants one, and the North Public Health Center site, up by Northgate, is open till 5pm and currently has almost noone there.  More information here: http://www.kingcounty.gov/healthservices/health/preparedness/pandemicflu/swineflu/clinics.aspx

No stampeding, people!

We know we’ve been changing our habits, given the H1N1 scare and the fact that we’ve got a youngin’. For example, we’re hesitant to go to some of the kids play areas for fear he’ll pick something up. Have others curtailed their social lives at all?

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I’m sometimes more willing to walk than ride the bus when it’s cold these days, but I do that every cold season. And I avoid busses going through UW at all costs this time of year, especially this year.

Interesting how this Wallyhood came into my email at 5:55 pm, an hour AFTER the doors were closed to get this vaccine.

While the county has opened up vaccinations for anyone who wants one now, those clinics are intended for people who don’t have insurance or are unable to pay.

If you are insured I’d try your doctor. I called on Friday and have an appointment on Monday. Hopefully it’s early enough to get some protection before my trip on the flu express (Southwest airlines) later this month.

I think there have been 9 pediatric deaths in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington combined this year. I hate to be a skeptic, but I feel like I have a better chance of winning the lottery (let’s say $1000 maybe, not the grand prize – just for the statisticians out there) than dying of the swine flu. From what I read it seems like the primary danger of serious problems is primarily those with a secondary condition like a heart condition, asthma, etc. Not saying I want to get it or that one shouldn’t be careful… just that I feel the scare is a media driven and it’s maybe been somewhat sensationalized.
