John Stanford REALLY recycles

Barb Burrill says “recycle those holiday cards…and juice boxes!”

Not satisifed with the usual “cart it off to the recycling center, where a petroleum-fueled process breaks down materials into their constituent parts for re-admission into the consumer cycle”, the John Stanford International School’s “Green Team” is making items directly from recycled materials. Barb says:

We make purses, lunch bags and tote bags from foil pouches such as Capri Sun, but we accept any brand. We also will be making gift tags and boxes from greeting cards of any type.

So save those cards! The school is closed now so we don’t have a collection station this week, but if you want to email Barb Burrill at [email protected], I’ll pick them up from any location in Wallingford. I’ll post an update once we have a place at the school where you can drop them.

Very cool idea. It might bother us a bit to walk around with a billboard for CapriSun, though. I wonder if they could mod it a bit to Adbuster it out.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
