Correction: Wrong police raid

  • Post author:

With great shame, we must issue a correction. Yesterday, we described a police raid at the Wallingford Inn, in which a crack-crazed Seahawks fan broke into rooms and assaulted people. We thought that this happened Wednesday night.

Well, as it turns out, the aforementioned events happened last week at the Wallingford Inn. What happened this Wednesday was a whole different story, again covered by the fine folks over at the Seattle Crime blog:

Seattle SWAT, patrol and robbery taskforce units descended on the Wallingford Inn last night after detectives tracked a bank robbery suspect to the motel. Police arrested a 23-year-old man who is a suspect in a series armed robberies earlier this month at two banks and a store in University Village. King County Jail records show the man was arrested for investigation of forgery back in September.

Earlier today, we received an email from a Seattlecrime.com reader who witnessed the police action last night:

I got off the bus next to the Wallingford Inn around 10pm last night. Undercover vehicles pulled up as I crossed the street, officers crouched in position. [I saw] multiple assault-rifle armed cops surrounding the entire building.

So, everybody straight now? The police converged on the Wallingford Inn last week because a drug-crazed lunatic went on a rampage, whereas this week, a SWAT team armed with assault rifles surrounded the Wallingford Inn to arrest an armed robber.

We have a little request for the owners of the Wallingford Inn: what about renaming it the Fremont Inn? Or the Green Lake Inn? The Ballard Inn?

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Sounds like they should name it the Walk On Inn.

What about the Police On In?

I feel sorry for the owners. It’s not like the guy comes to the counter saying “I just robbed a bank/gobbled a load of drugs/escaped from prison, can I have a room please?”

I stayed at that place and had the craziest, sketchiest, and the most fun i have ever had!
