Word on the Street This Week

Let’s eavesdrop on what the neighbors have been saying this week…online.  Jump in to join the conversation at the Wallyhood Forums link above.

  • Parking in our tight urban environment continues to be a hot topic in “Too many cars!”.  If a property near you has way too many drivers for the curb space in front of it, check for tips and to have your say, or if you happen to live in such a property, likewise!
  • Tempted to celebrate the temporary cessation of rain by hanging out your laundry on “Outdoor Clotheslines”?  See if there are any city regulations about that (besides airing your small private articles in public).
  • Since we’ve covered parking, let’s move on to hot topic number two: dogs. In the “Dog Attack” discussion the poster’s cat was badly hurt by an off-leash dog, raising questions of responsibility and the best way to handle this unfortunate situation.
  • If you missed the fun following the Save Time – Hire an Immigrant post, it’s not too late to weigh in. At 32 comments as of this writing, it’s an active conversation, but still no challenge to the famous dog poo wars.
  • Finally, if your attempt to line-dry your laundry has failed due the rain not temporarily ceasing, turn to the “Anyone know of a good Dry Cleaners?” post.

A very passionate set of comments has also been posted on Wallyhood’s “Unemployed” article about the fee charged by Wallingford Job Club, a sad reflection of today’s economic times.

To lighten the mood, you can win a freebie by posting a comment with your pet’s personal motto to “Cat with the Golden Fang” to be chosen for a free autographed copy of that book.  Or just scroll through for a good chuckle.  Hurry, though, the deadline is Wednesday night.

Helen has lived in Wallingford for 16 years and think it’s the best neighborhood in Seattle, possibly the world. She has worn a track between her house, QFC and the library and spends a lot time poking her nose into things. She is a mother, does volunteer work and is interested in local, green and child-related issues. She has an advanced degree in English literature and thus reads a lot and enjoys the craft of writing. She also works part-time for her husband’s software company (doesn’t everyone have a software company around here?).
