Can You Spare a (Free) Dime?

This arrived in our Wallyhood inbox some weeks ago and it was so lovely we had to share:

Hello,

While waiting at the 45th street crosswalk in front of QFC Saturday, an elderly man asked me to look at the curb that separates the QFC parking lot from the sidewalk.

That started a lengthy, disjointed, yet still interesting, trail of stories.  They ranged from someone tearing his shirts in the laundry room where he lives, to his Dad being a cop in the ‘hood, to his travels as a pilot in the Navy — and much more.

Sadly, I didn’t get his name.  Attached, however, is a photo (taken with my phone, so not greatly quality) of what he found.

I LOVE that someone did that.  Made me smile and love my neighborhood even more.

“Buddy, can you spare a dime?”

Cheers,
Luna

Did a similar moment of sweet Wallingford wackiness happen to you that made you smile?

Helen has lived in Wallingford for 16 years and think it’s the best neighborhood in Seattle, possibly the world. She has worn a track between her house, QFC and the library and spends a lot time poking her nose into things. She is a mother, does volunteer work and is interested in local, green and child-related issues. She has an advanced degree in English literature and thus reads a lot and enjoys the craft of writing. She also works part-time for her husband’s software company (doesn’t everyone have a software company around here?).
