7-Eleven by Post Office Closes Feb 1

  • Post author:

We just got a tip that the 7-Eleven near the post office (4612 Stone Way N.) is closing. We called and confirmed: they’ll be out as of Feb 1st and until then, it’s 50% off most things in the store.

Our evening call to the cashier didn’t yield deep insight into complex landscape of the urban convenience market economic outlook, just that they were not renewing their lease and the existing employees did not know whether they would have jobs elsewhere.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Arrgh! First the bread store on Phinney, now this!

So, Wallingfordians, what would we like to see occupy that space?

I hope it isn’t vacant too long or it will become an eyesore, taggers delight, etc.
Any suggestions? Aside from a latte/coffee shop (earlier story reveals that we might have enough of them).

Someone mentioned this to me a couple of weeks back, so I asked the cashier the next time I was in there and was met with a look of absolute confusion. “I don’t think so,” he said. It’s pretty lame that they weren’t telling their employees this was happening when random people in the neighborhood already knew.

I am going to miss 7-11 being there, as now I will have to walk all the way to Chevron to buy beer and cigarettes at 1 in the morning. And no, I don’t mean that as a joke. I do that all the time.

Sandwich shop. Just a really, really good sandwich shop with breakfast sandwiches. Is that really too much to ask for?

I’m with J on the sandwich shop. I wished one went in where Café Appassionato is located.

Shocking. As if a 7-11 6 blocks from another 7-11 was redundant.

I’m sorry for the employees, and the postal workers who used it, but (like all 7-11s), they were intensely overpriced.

As to my dream replacement: A really good Jewish Deli.

@Ffej, from your lips to God’s ears.

I own the Chevron around the corner at 1420 N 45th – almost 10 years now!

Displaced 7-Eleven’ers: wipe away your tears and listen to this inside secret: our Icee machine is actually the exact same equipment and syrups as your beloved Slurpee! It’s true.

    And yes, beer-and-cigarettes-at-one-in-the-morning guy- we’re open for you 24 / 365.

@Jim, you forgot to mention your signs are 20x awesomer than 7-Eleven’s ever were.

I heard a developer bought the property and will be building condos on it.

I know some of you don’t like 7-11’s, but I’m really not sure how I feel about condos. Do we really need more in wf?
