Unicorn Rescue

Late last Monday night, I was taking out the recycling when my next-door neighbor asked if I knew that there was a unicorn in my yard.  She’s pregnant, so not likely to have been drinking, but perhaps all the hormones . . . . ?  But, lo and behold, there on the sidewalk in front of my house was in fact a unicorn.  About 4’ tall including the horn, with a quite wonderful pelt of fake fur topping its paper-mache body.  It had a lovely poinsettia in its splendid cardboard mane, which was highlighted by somewhat freakish clumps of what appeared to be Barbie hair.

Of course, I had to go get my camera, and by the time I got back the mystery was explained.  A young couple had been having dinner at Bizarro (where else?) and a woman there had the unicorn and was saying she was going to take it home and burn it (the horror!).  They couldn’t bear the thought, so offered to take it.  When they got back to their car, the unicorn wouldn’t fit, so they had to go get a different car.

Another successful Wallyhood pet rescue.  I love living here!

Update: the unicorn, who Bizarro named Francisco (I’m discovering he likes it pronounced: Franceesco), is doing well with his new family.

I knew Francisco wouldn’t do well at home with my twin toddlers–he’s a fragile guy. Plan B went into motion, and he began his internship working for Microsoft. He attends all the meetings and calls taken from my office, is great at supporting me and the decisions I’m making, but also has a protective streak in him: stoic and threatening, all at the same time. I find him to be a valuable asset to my working life.

Also, quick clarification that the server actually begged us to take him with us (there were others who did not love Francisco so much, and she worried for his life). I believe she would be happy with her decision to send him home with us. He is loved. 🙂 I do wonder about his background, so if there’s a story to share there–would love to hear about how Francisco came to be.
