Wallingford Boys and Girls Club Celebration

WBGCMeghan Sweet, the director of the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club, writes:

Wallingford Boys & Girls Club, along with all six of its sites (serving Wallingford, Fremont, Lake City, Greenlake, View Ridge and Maple Leaf), is having its 5th Annual Celebration on June 7th. The event is free to attend (we don’t want any of our families to be left out!), although there is a silent auction and a soft ask during dessert. This is a great event for neighbors that already know and love the Club, and want a fun way to support it, and for new folks who are curious about what we do. The event is basically a big party and features a lot of youth performances, along with staff, board, and supporter recognition. We are still looking for more silent auction items and sponsors as well.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

What a great article on Adrian. I too feel like I want to help the homeless, and many times do. It is disheartening to think that my money is probably going to drugs. I wondered why she had been out there for 2 years. It makes things hard on the honest people who do need our help. Thank you all for your research, and information about the people who seem to always be out in front of QFC. I know there are plenty of food banks and women’s shelters to help them.
