Shawn sent this photo of last night’s boat fire on Lake Union, just down from Eastern Ave NE. According to KIRO, the fire started from illegal fireworks at about 10 pm last night and damaged 14 boats for an estimated $1.5M in damage:

Witnesses saw a firework land on the boat cover of a Master Craft on the second level of the storage racks. [Cory] Crosby used the boat lift and pulled the burning boat out of the slot in the storage structure to try to keep the fire from spreading.

He tried to use a fire extinguisher, but it was no match for fully engulfed boat.  He said it was a matter of minutes before the flames spread and damaged 13 more boats.  The fiberglass and fuel on board the boats, made the fire spread quickly.

KIRO posted this video their site:

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

That fire spread so quickly. I am so glad no one was hurt. SFD was super fast on the scene.
