Last night three cars were broke into (windows were shattered) on Latona between 42 and 43 street.

Two weeks ago our daughter was visiting from Spokane and her car was broken into, she was parked outside our house on Latona.

They are also stealing clothes, shoes and anything they find inside.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

The bad guys are on a roll – last night my car was broken into on Meridian between
36th and 37th. I guess they didn’t value the 2 CD players I was planning to take to
    Goodwill today!

This is actually my street, so I find it alarming I didn’t hear it. Does anyone have an idea of when this happened?

Because my car has a vinyl top, I never lock it hoping a thief is smart enough to just check the door. They never seem interested in my cassette deck…

I hope these break ins were reported to the police. Even if there’s little they can do, it’s important to file a report–you can do it online–to

At least once a week individuals come by my shop (Import Car Care 206-325-5377 aka: The Honest Mechanic) and try to sell me: cd’s, movie disks, shoes, backpacks etc. all most likely stolen goods from folks cars. I give them a polite “no thank you” and some have then even asked if I can spare five or ten dollars! Good lord, even the panhandlers have raised their prices!

Sadly that is the price of a “fix” and given the gaunt appearance of these folks I know that is likely where their money is going. I’d be happy to buy them some food but they want my money for a fix.

I was sad to see the other day that QFC had a half full syringe disposal box in the mens bathroom. I guess that it’s better than having the smack-heads put needles into the garbage and risk some employee getting stuck by a dirty needle.

I’ve inventoried my losses and can profile the bad guy(s) – they’re smoking camel
lights, using my specially designed ashtray, protecting themselves with pepperspray,
and reading a Highlander owner’s manual. Be alert – the world needs more lerts!

They’ve probably turned those things over by now, though, and they’re living like kings on the proceeds.

Is it possible that one or more employees at QFC have diabetes and must inject insulin several times a day and QFC was nice enough to provide them with a way to dispose of their used needles so that they don’t have to carry them home? Why is is always assumed that a syringe means illegal drugs?

My townhouse was broken into this afternoon on Winslow Place North. Door kicked in. Jewelry and silver taken.

There really seems to be increased crime around our ‘hood. I’ve had 3 car break-ins total–2 this year. I’ve also found belongings from other car break-ins–emptied purse etc. These are becoming too common. I’ve made a suggestion to this blog to see if they would do a crime watch section (like the West Seattle blog does). It seems we all would use it yes?
