John Teske at the Chapel

Jordan Jordan September 25, 2013 Comments are off

Local artist John Teske will be performing this Thursday, September 26 at the Chapel Perfromance Space:

mer is a new 40-minute piece for chamber orchestra that traces the many facets of human consciousness, awareness, and experience. This minimalist sound-painting by Seattle composer John Teske will be premiered by the Broken Bow Ensemble, a 26-piece group of strings and woodwinds. Guided by local tide data, the orchestra will slowly transform sound through time, unraveling layers of pitch and rhythm. These concerts are supported in part by the Seattle Office Arts & Culture CityArtist Project.

ARTIST INFORMATION
An emerging talent in the new music scene, Seattle-based composer John Teske writes innovative contemporary concert music for soloists, chamber groups, and chamber orchestra. Founder of the Broken Bow Ensemble and a series of “any ensemble” performances (featuring music written for flexible instrumentation), he focuses on enhancing the listener experience, utilizing extended techniques and guided improvisation to create pieces that are well-crafted while maintaining a human and organic feel. His recent work includes site-specific performances in Seattle parks and at the Seattle Center, Space Weather Listening Booth (a hybrid electroacoustic installation and acoustic performance piece in collaboration with Nat Evans), and compositions for chamber orchestra supported by a grant from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture. John graduated from the University of Washington, where he studied with Joël-François Durand, Juan Pampin, and Josh Parmenter.

The Broken Bow Ensemble is a 26-piece orchestra dedicated to performing contemporary classical music. The bows are broken, as are the expectations—starting anew and moving forward with the fragments that remain.

The performance is tomorrow, Thursday Setpember 26 starting at 8 pm at the Good Shepherd Center. $5 – $15 sliding scale donation. All ages welcome.
