Lower Woodland Work

From the Seattle Parks and Rec:

Seattle Parks and Recreation began construction this week on the Lower Woodland Park ballfields at Green Lake Way N & N 50th St. The work will replace ballfield lighting and provide other ballfield upgrades. The ballfields will remain closed through February 2014.

The project provides lighting improvements at Lower Woodland Park’s cloverleaf ballfields (#3-6).  The upgrade begins with demolition of the existing, outmoded lighting system and replacement with a state-of-the-art system. The goal of the project is to enhance play ability with safe, efficient lighting for field users, and to eliminate as much objectionable glare and light spill into the neighborhood as possible.

Lower Woodland Park’s Ballfield #1 will also be upgraded.  The infield synthetic turf will be replaced as well as all bases; and the clay pitcher’s mound will be reconstructed.  This work will increase the longevity of the ballfield for future enjoyment.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I have been waiting for someone to comment on all the changes on Green Lake Way and the 50th intersection. It takes much longer to get through the light going north or south at various times of day than before.

Do you know about PARK SPARK? It creates burnable methane from TONS of dog pooh from our dog parks.
    Burnable methane = lighting

Created at MIT a while ago, this is yet another idea whose time has come…and a way to create co-operation within our community. Yeah!
I hope you will see for your self. Google Park Spark or give the link above a try.

If not the ballfields at Lower Woodland…the tennis courts are just down the hill from the off-leash park.

Great to see! Lower Woodland One is a great field, so improvements will be great for North Central LL and the other teams who play there.
