Wallyhood warmly welcomes our newest sponsor, Dance Fremont:

DFlogo_178Dance Fremont (4015 Stone Way N) inspires a life-long love of dance in each student.

The dance instructors are experienced professionals who are innovative, motivational and caring, and believe that every student can enjoy the spirit and soul of dance, regardless of body size or image. A whole child approach permeates the dance studio, which has created a family atmosphere full of joy and creativity. Dance Fremont is a place for children to grow and learn in dance, and along the way they will feel part of something very unique and special. Please join us for a remarkable journey.

The ballet classes follow a comprehensive curriculum and teach precise technical skills combined with individual expression. The modern dance classes teach creative movement along with a specific curriculum designed for a progressive modern dance program.

The serious dance student looking for performing opportunities may audition for Fremont Danceworks, a contemporary dance company for teens.

We hope that you will visit us. Your child is welcome to watch or participate in a class prior to registering; please contact us for visitation reservations. If you have any questions at all regarding our curriculum or philosophy, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can be reached by phone 206-633-0812 or e-mail [email protected].

In addition to their classes, Dance Fremont presents The Steadfast Tin Soldier:

STS13_webpgDance Fremont announces its seventeenth performance season of the tender Hans Christian Andersen tale of The Steadfast Tin Soldier, A Story Ballet. This production reflects the dreams and work of a number of Fremont artists and young students from Dance Fremont!  Performing dance guest artist is Bruce McCormick, a former dancer and choreographer with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and European companies including Noord Nederlandse Dans, Bern Ballet, Royal Danish Opera and the Bavarian State Ballet. A current M.F.A candidate in University of Washington Master’s Dance Program, Bruce will partner Dance Fremont’s graduating ballerina, Una Ludvikesen.

Colorfully hand-tailored costumes, locally designed and hand-painted scenery, a cast of seventy young dancers and an ensemble of musicians join together to present this charming holiday dance event. Dance Fremont’s co-director, Vivian Little choreographed the ballet and composer, lyricist and librettist, Kathleen Mills conducts The Steadfast Tin Soldier Ensemble. Signing in Exact English (S.E.E.) has been incorporated into the choreography to make this performance accessible for the hearing impaired. Ticket prices are affordable and the show content is delightful and appropriate for all ages.

The Steadfast Tin Solder plays Saturdy December 14 2:00 pm and 7:3o pm and Sunday December 15 2:00PM at the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center (15343 25th Ave. NE). Tickets are available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/429470.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
