Do Good in the ‘Hood – Become a City Fruit Ambassador

  • Post author:

City Fruit, a Seattle nonprofit that harvests Bagging in GSC tree resizedlocal fruit from private and public fruit trees, is now in Wallingford – and offers a new, creative way to get involved with our mission.

The City Fruit Ambassador Program is a year long opportunity to use your skills, passions, and contacts to be the voice and face of City Fruit in Wallingford.

For example, say you really want to help with the volunteer fruit harvests in your neighborhood. Besides just helping pick the fruit or delivering it to local food banks, you can be a City Fruit Ambassador and lead a monthly volunteer harvest with a few neighbors or friends. City Fruit will provide you with training, tools, and everything else necessary to make your Ambassador work succcessful.

Or perhaps you are active in other local organizations. As an Ambassador, you could speak at monthly meetings that you are already attending or write a blog post or two about what City Fruit has been doing in the Wallingford neighborhood.

Do you like to make tasty goodies or play music for others? Volunteer to bring snacks to neighborhood work parties or play music for the worker bees. Everyone will love to see you coming!

There are a hundred different ways to get involved as a City Fruit Ambassador. We look forward to hearing your unique ideas and working with you to make your Ambassadorship fun and rewarding.

Apply on-line. Applications for the City Fruit Ambassador Program are due by 5:00 pm Friday, August 1.

Barb has lived in south Wallingford since 1992. She's a lady with a lopper as volunteer lead of the Burke-Gilman Trail Urban Orchard Stewards, a group that cares for public fruit trees along the Burke-Gilman Trail between Eastern and where Pacific becomes N 34th. In February 2020 Barb founded the current Friends of Meridian Playground which cares for the fruit trees and grounds of the park and holds weekly volunteer work parties on Wednesday noonish. Friday mornings she joins the Tilth Alliance volunteers to manage the care of the fruit trees at the Good Shepherd learning garden. Barb worked for nonprofit City Fruit for 9 years and still partners with them to teach neighbors to grow good fruit locally. Barb is also accumulating records and photos about the Good Shepherd property for eventual publication online.
