Night Out!

  • Post author:

It’s upon us! Seattle Night Out is tonight, Tuesday August 5th, 6  – 9 pm. Grab your cole slaw, grab your two buck chuck, and take to the streets!

Seattle-Night-OutA friend of mine over in the Central District just told me about how their block organized an e-mail list after a Seattle Night Out, and used it to let each other know that someone was stealing packages from doorsteps. One person posted a description of the vehicle they thought had done it, and when another spotted that vehicle shortly after, they were able to snap a photo of the license plate and pass it to the police. Remarkably, the police followed up and caught the thief with a car full of packages a week later, based on the report.

So, there. Seattle Night Out good for more than potato chips and lemonade.

I was pleased to have received our first ever Night Out invitation, up around the corner on 42nd between Latona and Thackeray. Our block hasn’t mustered an event of its own (we’ve got half as many neighbors, what with the school across the street), but it’s nice to know that you don’t have to live on the same block as the party.

Whether or not your block is having an event, please please step outside and take a little walk. You’ll find one within a block or two, and you won’t be sorry.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

We’d love to have you join us in north Wallingford, as well! For you, and other neighbors who might not have a block party going on, feel free to join us on Eastern Ave N between 46th and 50th (one long block). We’ll have grills going, so bring your own dinner to grill and something to share. We have a ton of kids on our block so it is a very kid-friendly party, and we love to meet neighbors 🙂
