Market Countdown and Music (but not there)

  • Post author:

aroundiceboxcantaloupemelonsThe Wallingford Farmers Market is winding up for the year: we have only three market days left: it runs 3:30 – 7:00 PM Wednesdays through September 24th in Meridian Park. This week’s cooking demonstration (4 – 5 pm) will be from Chef Brian Gojdics of Tutta Bella.

Get your veggies while you can. And if you have kids, it’s a great day to bring them to the park, as the playground is always brimming that day.

If the market isn’t to your taste, but getting out amongst your Wallingford neighbors is, then perhaps you’ll stop by the plaza outside Wallingford Center from 6 – 7 pm, and listen to the Easy Street Band, a nine-piece jazz swing band. Colleen Kurke had originally hoped to have them perform at the Farmers Market, but complaints from merchants and neighbors after July’s music put the kibosh on that. Wallingford Center graciously agreed to host, instead.

Food and music, feed your body and soul.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

We live across the street from the market and were never bothered by the music. In fact, we miss the music at the market. Hope to see it back next year.
