Vanishing Mirage

Jordan Jordan October 11, 2014 9 Comments

IMG_1277Joan spotted a “Retirement Sale” sign in the window of Mirage Shoes (4417 Wallingford Ave N).

“Maybe another shoe store with a bit hipper (but less comfortable?) shoes will open up next to them to complement Wish next door and Indie Frock around the corner. Something like ReSoul in Ballard or Sole Food at U Village would be awesome,” she adds.

Their web site explains that they are retiring the store after 17 years in business and will be selling down their stock. No closing date is given. We’ll check and update here.

Maybe Not a Number can come back! They left us Wallingfordites when their old shop got higher rent. I miss them. They did a lot for the community.

I hope it’s going to be a CVS pharmacy.

Kravitz – You are awesome! Thank you for the good laugh. That is always welcome!

Mirage ladies are awesome too. I hope they spend retirement tromping around the world in comfortable shoes!

Sad for me, but great news for the Mirage ladies–I love that shop and have many, MANY pairs of their shoes. I do hope another shoe store moves in. And . . . now I’m going to have to go shopping tomorrow to catch the last of the inventory! Thank you for many years of comfortable feet!

You are so right about that!!! I wish they would sell their store/inventory to two equally nice people, but that is a lot more hassle for them, and they don’t want to “go there!” I understand. I like them so, so much!!!!

I went in and did some last-chance shopping on Monday evening, and their stock is dwindling quickly. They have a few new items coming in, as they want people to be able to do their fall shoe shopping, but at this point they are guessing that they’ll be closed by Thanksgiving. Sounds like it was a decision made rather quickly, but they’re both looking forward to whatever comes next. I’ll miss the store, but appreciate the education they’ve given me and my troublesome feet in the last several years!
