I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

That was a hell of a windstorm Saturday! I’m glad someone got a photo of this. I arrived while the street was still closed, but most of the tree had already been removed. I’ve seen the piles of cut up tree and was super curious. That was a big tree, and it looks like maybe only the top of it hit some cars. Whew!

Note that the tree took down the light pole too! This happened shortly after 11:00 am and I heard the very loud boom of the tree cracking/falling from inside my home, some 7 blocks or more away. 45th was closed, buses were re-routed until very late in the afternoon, while city crews cleared the debris. My oh my!

Thanks you so much for sending in the photo . Wed heard of the tree being down but have seen nothing about it in the papers or on TV storm coverage.

There was a photo of the tree in the Sunday Seattle Times. I believe it was buried in the middle of the local news section.

Thanks for posting this. Came across the cut-down pieces and the downed streetlights last night and was really wondering what happened. Wasn’t home at the time, but that must have been some noise. I’m amazed we didn’t have power outages from the loss of the poles. Wonder if it took out the trolley lines, too?
