Spotted this guy tucked in a corner of the parking lot next to Wine World on 4th Ave NE.

That’s James of WildWillis selling wild mushrooms foraged by his father (and other foragers) on the Olympic Peninsula. When I passed by Friday night, he had a mix of chanterelle, black trumpet, matsutake, cauliflower, lobster and other varieties on hand.

WildWillis will be in that spot Thursdays to Sundays, 10 am – 8 pm through Christmas.

On a related note, it’s mushroom season in Wallingford, as well. I’ve spotted some beautiful Amanita Muscaria, below (don’t eat it!), as well as some other crazy looking monstrosities. So much bounty abounds, makes me wish I had mycological skillz.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Wow! That is absolutely great. Now I don’t have to wait for Saturday or Sunday farmers markets.

This has been a crazy fall for mushrooms! I’ve got a bunch of puffballs in my back yard, and am seeing many varieties in people’s yards as I walk around, iincluding some that look exactly like the white mushrooms we get at the grocery store. I share your wish for mycological skillz, Jordan!

Great news to hear that we’ve got wild ‘shrooms in the neighborhood!
